Climate and Sustainability Manager
Are you willing to contribute to foster our transition into a sustainable specialty chemical company?
The Sustainability, Strategy and Quality team is looking for a Climate and sustainability manager who will be responsible for identifying climate and sustainability risks and opportunities arising from the business and regulatory landscape and for the execution of our GreenHouse Gas emission reduction roadmaps. This position can be based in Stockholm or Nynäshamn, with some travel required.
About the Role
As the Climate and Sustainability Manager, you will play a critical role in advancing Nynas’s transition to a sustainable specialty chemical company. Working across functions—Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Sales and Marketing, HSSE, Communications, Strategy, and Finance—you will oversee GHG emissions reduction initiatives and lead an Environment and Climate task force. Reporting directly to senior leadership, your responsibilities will include regulatory analysis, carbon strategy development, project leadership, and stakeholder engagement.
This role involves driving initiatives for GHG emission reduction, preparing sustainability reports, and leading carbon impact assessments. Your work will shape Nynas’s sustainability strategy, aligning with evolving EU and national legislation and contributing to our long-term carbon neutrality goals.
Key Responsibilities
Business and Regulatory Environment
- Develop a deep understanding of the legal and business landscape, especially EU environmental legislation (e.g., Green Deal, Fit for 55) and their national applications, with a focus on Sweden.
- Identify risks, opportunities, compliance needs, and reporting requirements, shaping company policies and processes to ensure alignment.
Carbon Strategy, Policy Development, and Compliance
- Lead efforts to measure Nynas’s carbon footprint in line with GHG protocol methodologies.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Sales, and other functions to consolidate comprehensive carbon reduction roadmaps, including energy efficiency, waste reduction, and renewable energy initiatives, cascaded into site-specific action plans.
- Investigate Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) pathways and, pending approval, lead the SBTi target and roadmap setting.
Carbon Reduction Projects
- Drive approved carbon reduction projects, serving as a champion for strategic carbon reduction initiatives.
- Support business functions in collaborating with external stakeholders, including suppliers and customers, to promote and implement carbon reduction efforts.
- Conduct Carbon Impact Assessments for new projects, identifying potential environmental risks and mitigation strategies to maintain alignment with Nynas’s sustainability goals.
Reporting
- Prepare and consolidate inputs for annual Sustainability reporting on climate change, energy, and GHG emissions in a timely, accurate, and audit-ready manner.
- Contribute to improvements in reporting methodologies to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
Stakeholder Engagement and Communication
- Contribute to Nynas’s Sustainability engagement and communication plans, fostering environmental awareness and promoting sustainability initiatives.
- Lead the Climate and Environment task force and participate as a core member of the Sustainability coordination group.
- Represent Nynas in industry forums, conferences, and working groups related to carbon management.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in environmental performance.
- Support the adoption of best practices in carbon management and sustainability, staying informed on developments in environmental science and technology.
About You
We are looking for a forward-thinking leader with expertise in Operations, Climate Strategy, and Sustainability. You possess strong analytical and leadership skills and have demonstrated the ability to drive cross-functional initiatives. Knowledge of regulatory requirements and a commitment to continuous improvement in environmental performance are essential.
Requirements
- Proven experience in environmental management, operations, or related fields, ideally with expertise in carbon strategy and sustainability.
- Strong understanding of environmental legislation, especially EU regulations, and GHG protocols.
- Excellent leadership, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to manage cross-functional teams and coordinate complex initiatives.
- Fluency in English; Swedish proficiency is a plus.
What We Offer
Nynas provides a unique opportunity to lead impactful climate initiatives within a dynamic, forward-thinking organization. You’ll work with talented colleagues across multiple departments and play a crucial role in helping Nynas achieve its ambitious sustainability and carbon neutrality goals.
