Climate Resilience Officer

INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS

Greater Shepparton City Council, situated in the heart of the Goulburn Valley, is the fourth largest provincial centre in Victoria and has a well-developed economy due to its strong agricultural and irrigation base, with major industries related to food processing, manufacturing and transport. The Goulburn Valley is often referred to as 'The Food Bowl of Australia' as around 25% of the total value of Victoria's agricultural production is generated in this area.

Greater Shepparton has a population of approximately 65,000, and an expenditure budget in excess of $118 million. The population is culturally diverse with 9.9% of residents being born overseas. The area has excellent education, recreation, cultural, social and health facilities and tourism is a developing focus for the region.


Climate Resilience Officer

Salary: $88,648.56 per annum

Full Time – Permanent

In recognition of the urgency for Climate Action, Greater Shepparton City Council declared a climate emergency and adopted a corporate Zero 2030 Carbon Emission target.

To support the Climate Emergency, Greater Shepparton City Council is seeking an innovative, motivated and energetic change-maker to join the Sustainability and Environment Team as the permanent full time Climate Resilience Officer.

This unique and exciting role involves facilitating engagement and collaboration between all sectors of the Greater Shepparton community to implement the Climate Emergency Action Plan.

By building positive and dynamic working relationships, you will support, assist and collaborate with the community to strengthen the promotion, education and implementation of Climate Change mitigation and adaptation opportunities.

Applicants with relevant tertiary qualifications and/or experience in environmental sustainability and/or community development/engagement should apply. Those with limited experience in climate change but strong stakeholder engagement skills are strongly encouraged to apply.

Located in the heart of Victoria, Greater Shepparton is situated on the banks of the beautiful heritage listed Goulburn River. It is home to a vibrant and diverse community and culture, an exceptional recreational and sporting lifestyle, first class infrastructure and essential services.

Note: This position is subject to a 6 month qualifying period in accordance with the Fair Work Australia minimum employment period. During the qualifying period employees will be provided with appropriate on-going induction, support, assistance, resources and training to enable them to meet the required performance standards for the position.
