Norwest Precision Ltd. is seeking a qualified CNC Machinist – Horizontal Lathe (Live Tooling) to join our team at our facility in North York, Ontario.

Position Summary
The CNC Machinist – Horizontal Boring Mill reports directly to the Plant Manager – Machining and Plant Manager - Fabrication and is responsible responsible for the setup and operation of large CNC Horizontal Boring Mills to machine complex components ranging from 5 to 80 tons.
This position requires an experienced machinist capable of working in a custom, one-off machining environment, interpreting engineering drawings, performing machine setups, and machining large fabricated and cast components to precise specifications.
The successful candidate will work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and productivity.
Night Shift Day/Hours: Monday – Thursday – 4:00 PM – 4:00 AM
Break 1 – 6-6:15PM, Break 2 – 9-9:30 PM, Break 3 – 1-1:15 AM.
A shift premium of up to 5% will be assigned.
Duties & Responsibilities
CNC Machining & Setup
· Work in a custom, one-off machining environment interpreting engineering drawings and performing full setups.
· Responsible for setup and operation of large CNC Horizontal Boring Mills.
· Machine complex components ranging from 5 to 60 tons according to specifications defined on job travelers, drawings, and sketches.
· Read and interpret blueprints and symbols related to tolerances, GD&T, and surface finishes.
· Perform pre-inspection of parts to ensure product compliance is achievable prior to machining operations.
· Verify tooling requirements are available prior to the commencement of each job and escalate any concerns to the Plant Manager.
· Machine products using optimal cutting conditions to maintain efficiency and cost effectiveness.
· Maintain strong focus on safety, quality, and productivity while working independently.
Program Review & Tooling
· Read and understand CNC programs to a level that allows modification or editing when required.
· Maintain tooling in peak operating condition.
· Ensure proper tooling selection and setup for large component machining.
Inspection & Quality Control
· Verify dimensions of machined components using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, bore gauges, indicators and calipers
· Maintain measuring instruments in proper working condition through regular cleaning and calibration
· Ensure machined parts meet dimensional and quality requirements
· Perform inspection of critical features as outlined by job travelers and quality department and record results on company prepared documentation
Equipment Operation & Maintenance
· Perform daily machine checks in accordance with preventative maintenance programs and safety procedures
· Maintain machines and equipment in safe and production condition including:
o Routine Lubrication
o Monitoring coolant levels
o General cleaning and upkeep
· Maintain excellent general housekeeping including work areas, chip removal, benches, floors and storage areas
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
· 5–8 years of CNC Machining experience with large parts
· Proficient with Fanuc, Heidenheim or Siemens CNC Controls
· Ability to read blueprints, drawings and technical specifications
· Follow OHSA, shop safety practices, and manufacturing compliance standards
· Experience working with overhead cranes, forklifts, and heavy equipment considered an asset
· Willingness and ability to work extended hours, including Saturdays, as required to support scheduling and production demands
· General machinist certification and GD&T knowledge is preferred

Pay: $26.00-$40.00 per hour
