PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Responsible for setting up, operating, and performing CNC or Manual machine functions, such as turning, facing, knurling, drilling, milling, reaming, boring, and tapping of high value and complex metallic workpieces by performing the following duties.
PRIMARY DUTIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Plan, set up and operate machining tools including CNC, lathes, milling machines, drill presses, grinders and other manual machine tools.
- Read and interpret blueprints, routers, planning sheets, sketches, and related technical data to determine tooling requirements, setup procedures, control settings, and machining methods & sequences.
- Reads and interprets CNC machine programs; loads programs, adjusts programs, and makes minor changes to programs during production operations
- Understands and interprets CNC programming software to produce parts in the most efficient and effective manner available using the full range of machining capabilities
- Verify’ s that fixture setup meets acceptable quality standards regarding hole and boring sizes, depths, angles, or other specifications.
- Mounts, aligns, and secures tooling, attachments, and workpieces on machines.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment Daily Cleaning of machine, tooling, work area and performs routine machine maintenance.
- Calculates and sets machine controls to position spindle in relationship to workpiece and to regulate factors such as cutting depth, speed, feed, and coolant flow.
- Inspects own work and work of others as required to verify conformance to specified requirements.
- Inspects, cleans and calibrates measuring equipment as required.
- Assists in the selection, stocking and ordering of expendable tools.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Participates actively in continuous improvement through individual process changes and participation on cross-functional improvement teams.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SPECIAL SKILLS:
- High school diploma or GED required. Certification from a Technical school machining program a plus.
- Work with minimum supervision and detailed drawings. Well organized. Strong attention to detail.
- A minimum of 3-5 years’ work experience in a machine shop & job shop work environment. Minimum 2 years manual lathe & mill experience.
- Experience machining a wide range of metals, e.g. Stainless, Inconel, carbon steel, zirconium.
- Ability to use precision quality tools (e.g. calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, etc.) to take accurate measurements.
- Strives to continuously build knowledge and skills, shares expertise with others.
- Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; Works well in a group problem solving situations
- Observes safety and security procedures; Determines appropriate action beyond guidelines; Reports potentially unsafe conditions; Uses equipment and materials properly.
- Experience operating overhead cranes and material rigging preferred.
- Completion of a college-based or apprenticeship-based CNC Operator/Programmer or CNC/Machinist Technician program or certificate; or a minimum of 3 years of skilled experience in tooling and Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine operation

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand for long periods to time. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move more than 100 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 200 pounds. May utilize a lifting device as required. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Ability to navigate facility.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $25.80 - $31.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 45 per week
