TRIUMF’s state-of-the-art Machine Shop specializes in translating physicists’ vision into prototypes and one-of-a-kind experimental components. This is often an iterative process in which scientists, designers and machinists work back-and-forth to create unique components that must meet extreme tolerances for vacuum, cryogenics, and high-precision measurement.

We are looking to hire a Journeyperson Machinist to join this exciting team.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manufactures components using CNC and standard Machine Shop equipment
  • Writing CNC programs using Mastercam software
  • Practices good safety habits and housekeeping
  • Follows all machine shop protocol while meeting work request deadlines
  • Ensures that work produced meets with TRIUMF’s standards

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Expected to provide guidance, training, and mentorship to other employees within job area

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Fully competent in operating vertical machining centers and or live tooling lathes
  • Specific knowledge and skill in the use of MasterCam software as well as standard machine shop equipment such as lathes, vertical and horizontal milling machines, grinders, bandsaws and all measuring instruments associated with accuracy, precision and quality assurance
  • Ability to read and interpret complex drawings and follow verbal instructions
  • Working knowledge of Solidworks
  • Basic understanding of Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
  • Ability to function effectively as a team player
  • Capacity to communicate and interact professionally and competently with outside users of the machine shop
  • Demonstrated time management skills

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

BCTQ or IP or equivalent journeyman certificate with 7+ years’ experience machining a variety of ferrous and non-ferrous materials.

Salary Information: $64,400 - $80,500
