General
The SSN will:
· Implement the objectives of the PIC
· To provide direction and support to staff nurses and Healthcare Assistants in the direct provision of care. Ensure preventative interventions are carried out by staff.
· To ensure clinical expertise and level of competence of staff in the clinical setting.
· Collaborate with staff nurses and Healthcare Assistants in preparing and implementing resident care plans. Oversee compliancy of same and report to PIC where issues are arising.
· Ensure good communication with the multi-disciplinary care team.
· Play a central role in encouraging and maintaining a safe environment for residents, staff and visitors and to report any hazards which may give rise to accidents to management.
· To investigate relevant incidents/accidents, complaints and report to PIC.
· To provide direction and support to the Healthcare Assistants, Physiotherapist, Activities Co-ordinator and the Head Chef.
· Encourage evidence-based practice, using a care planning approach to nursing care
· In consultation with the PIC and other disciplines, implement and assess quality management programmes
· Preparation of Clinical Indicators, Quarterly Returns to HIQA and the audit programme. Oversee the close out of non-conformances on audits in conjunction with the PIC.
· Collaborate with the PIC in preparing, implementing policies and procedures
· To report and advise of trends, problems etc in relation to bed management.
· To be responsible for the management, care and treatment of residents, to ensure that the optimum standard of care is provided for residents. Ensure any concerns or actions arising from shift have continuity of care.
· Ensure that staff nurses complete their allocated work, update care plans, assessments etc.
· Foster good working relationships between colleagues and other staff by maintaining a high professional standard.
· Co-operate with policies and approved practices relating to PIC documentation of resident care plans and standard setting with a view to preparation for clinical audit and HIQA inspections.
· Supervise and support nursing and caring staff in performing their duties in compliance with agreed policies and protocols.
· Implement and oversee induction programme for new nursing staff members in line with Ennis Road Care Facility policy.
· Participate in the development, implementation and maintenance of a preceptorship programme for both newly qualified and newly appointed staff members.
· Adhere to Ennis Road Care Facility uniform policy and ensure all staff comply with same.
· Keep up-to-date with nursing research findings and new developments in nursing education, practice and management
· Attend weekly management team meetings and staff meetings/training days/seminars as considered appropriate
· To adhere to Ennis Road Care Facility’s confidentiality policy.
· To promote Ennis Road as a care facility of excellence to prospective residents and their family members/friends.
· To undertake such other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Person in Charge.

Qualifications
Essential
Nursing Qualification - NMBI
Registration with An NMBI
Evidence of continuous professional development
Desirable
Third Level Management
Experience:
Essential
- Minimum one year’s post graduate experience with a minimum of one year’s experience in Care of the Older Person Gerontology Experience
Desirable
- Experience in Geriatric Nursing Care/Psychiatry/Adult Disabled
Professional knowledge.
Essential
· Demonstrate a sound knowledge and clinical nursing practice together with future trends in Care of Older Persons
· Shows an understanding of current legislative policies pertinent to Care of the Older Persons.
Desirable
· Knowledge of organisation of health services and trends nationally and internationally
· Ability to source both theoretical and technical information

Job Type: Full-time
Schedule:
- Monday to Sunday
- Weekend availability
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Limerick: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

- Ireland (preferred)

Role of CNM:
REQUIREMENTS:
- NMBI registration
- 2 years staff management
- Minimum 3 years general nursing experience
- Management Course
QUALITIES:
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
- Ability to delegate tasks efficiently
Beech Lodge Care Facility is an elderly care facility just outside Limerick City. We have 66 beds including a 15 bed Dementia Unit. The successful candidate should be used to working in a busy environment and must be meticulous about record keeping. Staff training and quality improvement initiatives will be a key part of the role.
