About the Role

As an Ophthalmology Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will provide specialist nursing care and support the medical team with the management of ophthalmology conditions, assessing and reviewing care toward optimal outcomes. The role is predominantly direct patient care and requires you to utilise your expertise in ophthalmology to manage your own clinics. The majority of the time you will be based at Waikato Hospital Eye clinic however, some travel to our district localities will be required to meet our vision for sustainable and equitable service delivery.

About the Service

Eye clinic is located within the Meade Clinical Centre (MCC) outpatient facility and is the largest of our clinics delivering 120 – 200 appointments per day. Our team of ophthalmologists are very supportive of our experienced nursing team and the development of the CNS role for the ophthalmology service.

About you

As a Registered Nurse you will have a commitment to delivering patient and whanau focused care with a commitment to quality and patient safety. You will have attained or be working toward a postgraduate diploma in health sciences. Key requirements for this role are:

  • Demonstrate prioritisation and critical thinking;
  • Have excellent time management and exhibits effective communication;
  • have a minimum of 3 years’ ophthalmology experience in a New Zealand hospital/acute care facility;
  • Sound nursing knowledge & experience in ophthalmology, with experience as an intravitreal injector.
