- Every project is an opportunity to help preserve Australia’s cultural history for future generations.
- The Library’s large collection includes manuscripts, textiles, costumes, artworks, sculptures, and, of course, books. Conservators from all specialisations are encouraged to apply.
As a world leading library, the National Library of Australia offers an innovative and collaborative workplace where exceptional team players and technical specialists can flourish. As part of the Library’s team, you will help support organisational reform, working collaboratively with your team to shape the Library’s future.
The Library is seeking to fill an ongoing Program Manager - Collection Care APS 6 role in the Collection Care Section of the Collection Branch.
In this role you will work across a wide spectrum of conservation and preservation priorities including, new acquisitions, digitisation, exhibitions, and loans, preventive conservation and an annual prioritised collection treatment programme. You will be part of the specialist Collection Care team caring for the Library’s large collection that includes, but is not limited to manuscripts, books, textiles and costumes, framed works, maps, globes, sculptures, photographs and audio-visual material.
This role forms part of the Collection Care management team and has management oversight of our Conservator cohort. Someone who is curious, adaptable and eager to work across a diverse collection and stakeholder group. A confident communicator who is looking to participate in projects aimed at creative problem solving and exploring new ways of working.
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- Experience in communicating conservation principles to a range of different stakeholders internal and external to the Library.
- Qualifications or equivalent experience in Cultural Materials Conservation (including but not limited to book and paper), Art, Humanities, Social Sciences or Cultural Heritage
- Demonstrated experience working with and overseeing the care of heritage collections.
Given the nature of the activities undertaken, the role must be conducted on-site and has manual handling responsibilities. As a result, permanent or long-term working from home arrangements are not available. Other ways of working flexibly including part-time hours can be considered.
A merit pool may be established from this recruitment activity which may be used to fill similar vacancies at the Library.
We encourage and welcome applications from people with disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, LGBTIQA+ people, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and mature age people.
