Job Description
Hours: Part-Time 35 Hours
Work Location: 30-30 Thomson Avenue, LIC, NY 11101
As a College Aide, you can work up to 17 hours per week during the school year and then full-time during the winter/ summer breaks. Please note you must be a student enrolled in an accredited college or graduate school to be eligible.
The Department of Design & Construction, Division of Infrastructure, is currently seeking two College Aide to join the Coastal Resiliency – Design or the Sustainability and Urban Design teams within the Design Unit.
As a Coastal Resiliency – Design’s College Aide (CR), the successful applicant will report directly to an Engineer-in-Charge, create drawings from basic data and sketches, assist engineers in collecting and selecting data, and manage map archives. Additionally, the College Aide will engage in regular surveys and oversee the coordination of AutoCAD drawings with utilities and consulting firms.
As a Sustainability and Urban Design’s College Aide (GI), the successful applicant will assist in the performance of research, data collection and interpretation, report writing and mapping work with low to moderate difficulty. The work/training will be in one or more of the following specialized areas of sustainability: green infrastructure, community engagement, and application of the ISI Envision framework for sustainable infrastructure.

Minimum Qualifications
For Assignment Level I:
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school.
For Assignment Level II (Information Technology):
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or closely related field, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study.
For Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow):
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or other area relevant to the information technology project(s) assigned, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study. Appointments to this Assignment Level will be made by the Technology Steering Committee through the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications.
SPECIAL NOTE
Maximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years. No student shall be employed more than half-time in any week in which classes in which the student is enrolled are in session. Students may be employed full-time during their vacation periods.
Preferred Skills
Please note the following preferred skills for this position: 1. Preference will be given to candidates majoring in Civil Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Forestry, Urban Design, City Planning, or a related field. 2. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills 3. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiar with AutoCAD will be considered an advantage. 4. Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP) credential (preferred)

Residency Requirement
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
