College Intern - Procurement Mechanical Engineer

What a College Intern - Procurement Mechanical Engineer does at HP:

  • Manages all aspects of the global engineering relationship with one or more key suppliers of external hardware, components, materials, or services for the development and manufacturing of a product or service line.
  • Reviews and evaluates supplier product designs, processes, and activities for compliance with company manufacturing guidelines, quality processes, and standards; provides tangible feedback based on results to improve product quality and mitigate risk of product failure.
  • Leads overall engineering and customer feedback analysis processes for supplier products; communicates and collaborates with management, internal, and outsourced suppliers, manufacturing, and development partners to develop and implement changes to product or process to reduce defects, improve quality, and lower costs.
  • Drives innovation and integration of new supplier technologies and company quality initiatives into product design and manufacturing.
  • Works with product design, industrial design, and manufacturing groups on material selection, design feasibility and aesthetics of new product’s part & tooling designs.

Individuals who do well in this role at HP, usually possess:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Software development skills (eg Excel Macro).
  • Excellent analytical thinking, project management and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interface with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Fundamental knowledge of Mechanical Product Design.
  • Passion in hands-on projects.
  • Experience in plastics and elastomer and secondary process including recycle plastics and others supporting sustainability programs.
  • Proficient with the use of CAD tools, Pro-E, Solid Designer, Design for Manufacturing, SPC, DOE and Six Sigma techniques.
  • Extensive experience in tool designs and improve tooling vendors designs for better product quality and tool reliability.
  • Project management of New Product Tooling cycle.
  • Knowledge and Experience in Tool Qualification process and all documentation for tool approval.
  • Experience in Toolmaker and Molder Capability Assessment.
  • Knowledge in Part Specifications - part dimensions standards and tolerances, dual shot molding, texture, painting process etc.
  • Change management process and documentation of implementation.
  • Able to commit for a 5-6 months internship, starting in January 2025.
