Job Summary:
The Commission-Based Construction Sales Representative is a high-level sales role focused on generating new business, managing existing client relationships, and driving sales for a company in the construction industry. This position offers the opportunity to earn a competitive commission-based salary, rewarding performance and success. The ideal candidate will have deep industry knowledge, excellent sales skills, and the ability to close complex deals in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Sales Development:
- Prospect for new business opportunities through cold calls, networking, industry events, and referrals.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key decision-makers, including contractors, project managers, developers, and architects.
- Identify and evaluate market trends, new construction projects, and upcoming needs within the target market.
Sales Strategy & Execution:
- Work with internal teams to create tailored proposals, presentations, and quotes for clients.
- Negotiate and close sales deals, ensuring alignment with company goals and client needs.
- Provide expert advice on products, services, and industry best practices to clients.
- Lead and manage the sales process from initial contact to contract closure.
Account Management:
- Cultivate long-term relationships with existing clients, ensuring high levels of satisfaction and repeat business.
- Monitor project timelines and budgets, providing ongoing support to clients and ensuring expectations are met.
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients post-sale, managing any issues or concerns and ensuring a smooth delivery of services.
Market and Product Knowledge:
- Stay informed on industry trends, competitor activities, and changes in building codes or regulations.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of company offerings, including materials, services, and solutions for construction projects.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with the estimating and project management teams to ensure accurate proposals, timelines, and scope of work.
- Attend meetings with internal stakeholders to ensure the successful execution of sales strategies and project requirements.
Performance Tracking & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of sales activity, client interactions, and project progress.
- Meet or exceed sales targets and KPIs, reporting regularly to sales leadership on pipeline status, opportunities, and challenges.
- Continuously improve sales techniques based on performance analytics and feedback.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in construction sales, with a proven track record of meeting and exceeding sales targets.
- Experience in selling construction materials, services, or managing large-scale projects is highly preferred.
- Previous experience in commission-based sales roles is a must.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of the construction industry, including key players, trends, and challenges.
- Excellent sales, negotiation, and closing skills, with the ability to build relationships and gain trust quickly.
- High level of comfort with a commission-based compensation model and the drive to succeed.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficient in CRM systems, Microsoft Office, and sales reporting tools.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Construction Management, or related field preferred, but not required.
Certifications (optional):
- Relevant industry certifications such as LEED, Project Management Professional (PMP), or sales-specific training can be a plus.
Working Conditions:
- Travel to client sites, job fairs, and industry events as needed (approx. 30-50% travel).
- Work Environment: Primarily field-based, with some office or remote work as needed for administrative tasks.
Compensation:
- This position is 100% commission-based, with uncapped earning potential.
- Performance incentives may also be available for meeting or exceeding sales targets.
