We are Seeking Communication and Legislative Clerk

As the municipal Communication and Legislative Clerk, you will work closely with senior municipal staff to ensure that legislative requirements are complete, that the communication strategy of the municipality is implemented and that our goal to provide superior public service is achieved.

Job Duties:
- Lead the development and implementation of the M.D.’s communications strategy and communications projects which include photography, videography, graphic design, website, print, advertising, and social media
- Ensure corporate communications, corporate branding and associated standards are met, as well as support and develop corporate initiatives such as branding, digital media or social media
- Manage the municipality’s online presence which includes corporate social media accounts, newspapers, external web page updates, information updates and newsletters
- Research and develop communications including themes and key messages for a wide variety of mediums and audiences such as annual publications, eNewletters, signage, social media web, advertising, surveys, marketing/brochures, and various internal documentation
- Develop and manage public engagement and consultation strategies and report results to support programs and services
- Participate in Public Engagement initiatives to provide support transparency and accountability goals
- Utilize software to develop written, graphic and video material to be used in media and social media advertising for public information purposes
- Consult with department heads to gather information, prepare communication plans and develop relevant, compelling, and easy-to-understand content that engages the intended audience
- Act in the capacity of an Information Officer within the regional municipal emergency plan
- Greet and direct clients to proper department staff, take payments, issue receipts and respond to telephone and in-person inquiries
- Assist Chief Administrative Officer in preparation municipal meeting agendas utilizing municipal software
- Attending meetings and take minutes of municipal meetings and transcribe minutes of other meetings
- Assist in management of meeting agendas and minutes in accordance with municipal policy
- Assist Chief Administrative Officer with correspondence
- Maintain meeting schedule and calendar of events for CAO and Council Coordinate scheduled meetings with internal and external officials and agencies for municipal departments
- Assist with administration of the FOIPP Act
- Assist Director of Finance with Accounts Receivables and backup to Accounts Payables as required from time to time
- Accurately index and store all documents created within job role in a digital format within the municipality’s electronic management software in accordance with municipal policies and procedures
- Other administrative and functional duties as required
Job Requirements:
- An undergraduate degree or diploma in communications, public relations, business administration or related field or a experience including certification and working experience in communications, event planning or project management.
- 2-5 years experience in a corporate communication or administrative professional role.
- Demonstrated ability to develop professional, engaging, strategic, and impactful messages through a variety of media
- Personable, able to build professional relationships and able to work in a team environment.
- Excellent written, proofreading skills, oral communication, and listening skills in the English language
- Excellent critical thinking, analytical and planning skills.
- Able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced and changing environment.
- Experience with design software, especially for photo editing, graphic design, and document layout (print and digital) necessary.
- Comfortable in a Microsoft Windows environment.
- Possession of a valid Alberta driver’s license and satisfactory driving record is required.
- Expertise with Microsoft Office – Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.
- Experience working in a municipal or other government organization would be an asset.
- Customer service experience or tourism/destination marketing experience would be an asset.
