We are seeking a passionate and experienced Community and Youth Engagement Lead to join the headspace Mount Isa team and play a key role in supporting the wellbeing of young people aged 12–25.

About the Role

This is a dynamic leadership position where you will drive community engagement, youth participation, and service promotion activities. You’ll work alongside young people, families, schools, and community organisations to increase awareness of mental health and wellbeing supports and improve access to culturally safe, youth-friendly services.

You will also lead the development of meaningful youth participation initiatives, including coordination of the Youth Reference Group.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate community engagement, outreach, and promotion activities
  • Build strong partnerships with schools, Aboriginal organisations, youth services, and stakeholders
  • Support youth participation and leadership opportunities
  • Coordinate events, workshops, school presentations, and awareness campaigns
  • Supervise and support engagement staff, volunteers, and students
  • Manage social media and online engagement in line with headspace branding
  • Monitor and evaluate engagement activities and outcomes
  • Represent headspace Mount Isa at community forums and events
  • Contribute to a culturally safe, trauma-informed and youth-focused service environment

About You

You are a motivated and community-focused professional who is passionate about improving outcomes for young people.

You will bring:

  • Qualifications in Community Development, Youth Work, Mental Health, Health Promotion or similar (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience in community engagement, youth participation or health promotion
  • Strong relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Confidence delivering presentations, workshops and community education
  • Excellent organisation, communication and time management skills
  • Ability to work both independently and within a multidisciplinary team
  • Commitment to culturally safe, trauma-informed and youth-centred practice

Highly regarded:

  • Experience in Aboriginal Community Controlled Health or youth mental health services
  • Knowledge of the Mount Isa community
  • Experience with social media or communications

Requirements

  • Current C Class Driver Licence
  • Blue Card (or ability to obtain)
  • National Police Check
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • Willingness to travel, including to remote communities

Why Join Us?

  • Work with a leading Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service
  • Make a meaningful impact in youth mental health and wellbeing
  • Supportive and culturally grounded team environment
  • Opportunities for professional growth and development
