Located across the harbour from Wellington, Te Herenga Tangata, provides community services across the beautiful Hutt Valley. We have eight Occupational Therapists in our large inter-disciplinary team specializing across a variety of areas.

The Occupational Therapist in this role will be working across the range of community referrals engaging with clients with rehabilitation needs through to those referred into Community OTs for home-based functional & environmental assessments. Intervention may include equipment, housing modifications or wheelchair related input that requires a level one credential. We won - t ask you to do bathroom modifications but ramp installation is now well facilitated by the supplier, so you - ll find it very easy to organise these for clients!

You - ll be using a range of skills including neuro rehabilitation to offer the appropriate assessments and collaborative intervention planning for people recovering from/living with conditions such as Parkinson - s Disease, MS, and Stroke etc who have been discharged home from hospital or referred by Primary Health. Other client groups include people requiring a Return to Work programme, older adults and people with a range of long-term conditions impacting on their function.

You will have access to Physiotherapists, Social Workers, Nurses, Speech Language therapy, Dietitians, along with our medical and Community Nursing colleagues. Our service delivery models are evolving as we use more inter-professional practice approaches and delegate more work to our skilled Allied Health Assistants.

We are continuing to build relationships with Primary Health and a broad range of Government and Community providers with the objective of making it easier for our staff to provide timelier, effective and equity focused health services.

Te Herenga Tangata is part of a single Community Older Adults, Rehabilitation and Allied Health group together with our Capital Coast colleagues increasing professional and career development opportunities for our staff. Within this position you will have access to clinical supervision, the support of the OT Professional leader, in-service and external training opportunities relevant to your role.
