We are seeking a compassionate and reliable Support Worker to assist individuals living semi-independently in the community. The Support Worker will provide individualized support with daily living activities, skill development, community participation, and personal care where required. The goal of this program is to promote independence, dignity, and inclusion for all individuals. Due to the specific support needs of some of the individuals supported in this program, this position may be restricted to MALE applicants. During the interview process this requirement may change depending on needs at the time of hire. This requirement is necessary to uphold the comfort and personal preferences of the individuals receiving support.

Innovative Community Support Services (ICSS) is a non-profit charitable organization that is committed to creating and providing families & individuals with innovative, high quality and cost-effective community-based programs and services that promote a strong sense of wellbeing while making a positive contribution to our culturally diversified community.
The SIL program supports adults with a developmental disability and/or dual diagnosis (mental health) who live independently or desire to live independently. Areas of support include all aspects of life skills required to live independently. Daily living supports include banking, budgeting, laundry, shopping, meal preparation and light housekeeping. Other areas of support are medical appointments, home safety, medication help, and connecting them with resources and support in their community.
Shifts consist of a scheduled rotation with mainly 8-hour shifts, including days/evenings/weekends.
NOTE: A VALID DRIVER'S LICENCE & VEHICLE IS REQUIRED.
Mileage paid when on shift when using own personal vehicle (0.55 cents per kilometer.)
Duties and Responsibilities
- Mentor and teach life skills including communication skills, coping with emotions and change, budgeting, household management, sexual health and healthy relationships, boundaries and self-care, self-expression, social skills, coping tools, good hygiene habits, community awareness, & personal safety.
- Understand and promote the rights and responsibilities of the individuals.
- Work independently or within a team to prioritize and complete shift requirements while still meeting the individual’s needs.
- Provide support to individuals by carrying out duties and following their support plans, considering their choices, needs, and actively involving them.
- Identify social, economic, recreational, physical, vocational, and educational services in the community that will meet the individual’s needs. Provide support guidance and instruction to facilitate participation.
- Participate in assessment, goal setting, and program planning for the individual. Efficiently plan and maintain a caseload of assigned individuals.
- Perform delegated tasks as directed by professionals, such as administering medications and completing range of motion according to medical professional’s instructions within established agency Policies and Procedures and Individual Support Plans.
- Provide support in areas of personal hygiene while maintaining the individual’s dignity and respect.
- May have to perform general cleaning duties.
- Ensure accuracy, confidentiality and safekeeping of agency records.
- Ensure completion of administrative work.
- Develop and maintain respectful and positive cooperative working relationships to contribute to the integrated, seamless delivery of services from ICSS, including individuals, staff, families, community partners, etc.
Skills/Knowledge/Experience Required
- DSW, SSW, CYW, or three years' experience in the field working with challenging behaviours. (This position is not suitable for PSW's.)
- Experience with individualized plans.
- Ability to organize, plan, and prioritize work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to follow direction and work as a member of a team.
- Ability to problem solve and make decisions accordingly.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and support new and unacquainted individuals with minimal information.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
Conditions of Employment
- Possess a valid driver’s licence.
- Access to personal vehicle for work purposes.
- Possess a driver’s abstract with less than four minor convictions and no serious convictions, no suspensions.
- Possess valid vehicle insurance.
- Must provide a clean Vulnerable Sector Police Check.
- Must provide a valid First Aid/CPR Level C certificate.
- Must provide a letter of good health and documentation indicating all up-to-date applicable immunizations.
