Job Description

The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) is the nation’s largest public housing authority, with an operating budget of $3.3 billion and over 11,000 employees who manage and maintain 311 developments housing about 400,000 residents. NYCHA also operates the country’s largest Section 8 program, providing rental assistance to approximately 200,000 additional people.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist in research, investigations, or studies related to civil engineering functions or activities within NYCHA.
Conduct field inspections to assess building conditions, identify necessary repairs, and document findings.
Participate in surveys and inspections to ensure compliance with applicable building regulations, contract specifications, and engineering standards.
Review reports from consultants, administrators, and tenant associations, providing technical input as needed.
Assist in evaluating repair and maintenance orders, reviewing contractor work, and ensuring adherence to established engineering criteria.
Support contract management by assisting in the solicitation of bids, overseeing awarded projects, and verifying completed work.
Participate in monitoring the progress of construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation projects, ensuring work meets quality and compliance standards.
Prepare reports on property conditions, project status, and engineering assessments.
Perform calculations and assist in engineering analyses to support compliance initiatives.

NOTE: A motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York may be required for certain assignments. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.

CIVIL ENGINEERING INTERN - 20202

Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree in civil engineering from an accredited college. A degree in any other engineering area or in civil engineering technology is not acceptable.
