Position Summary
The Compliance Specialist ensures that our facility licenses are operating in compliance with state and local rules, regulations, and ordinances. The Compliance Specialist is a unique and highly versatile position that requires a strong social and organizational skillset due to the nature of contact and collaboration with external entities and departments.
Ultimately, the primary responsibility for the Compliance Specialist is to function as a safeguard for the Compliance Department by ensuring the continual integrity of GDF in the eyes of the regulatory authority and company management. Day-to-day duties that fall under this responsibility include collaborating with facility management to ensure continual adherence to state marijuana program requirements, including submitting required reporting and notifications punctually, monitoring and compiling data produced by Metrc Team staff in routine facility audits, and assisting with documentation and resolution of discrepancies, as needed. This position will aid the Director of Compliance to execute all compliance tasks in their respective facility and will be expected to escalate pertinent information, issues, and regulatory inquiries regularly and effectively to Compliance Department management.
The Compliance Specialist will assist in developing and executing needed support resources to ensure all facility departments are operating within the requirements outlined by the DHSS. This position investigates, documents, and refers regulated inventory issues to Human Resources, when required by state regulation. This position will also assist with investigation requests brought forth by the DHSS and will also collaborate frequently with the other internal Divisions within the Compliance Department to execute the objectives of the Department as determined by Management
An ideal candidate will have prior knowledge of and at least 3 years of experience working in a compliance position in a regulated cannabis market in the US, and be located in the Kansas City, Missouri region.
ADDITIONAL NOTES: This is a full-time position. Work authorization/security clearance required. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and must pass all required background checks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinates with the SVP of Compliance and facility operations management to execute compliance tasks.
- Remains up to date on relevant industry-related and state-mandated laws and regulations.
- Assists with, reviews, and reports on scheduled audits.
- Investigates and documents BioTrack issues elevated by the BioTrack Team; elevates to Compliance Department management as necessary.
- Assists with requests and queries from the ABC or other regulatory agencies.
- Ensures all state and local notification and reporting requirements are adhered to.
- Supports BioTrack Team in verifying the digital inventory matches the physical inventory.
- Coordinates with facility management and inventory teams to maintain full rules of compliance as it relates to the inventory tracking system(s).
- Communicates issues and needs with Compliance Department and facility management.
- Maintains a high standard of orderliness and professionalism.
- Performs regular (semi-weekly) audits of departments, the facility, and security to determine compliance with state program requirements - documents, reports, and follows up as necessary.
- Proactive identification of issues, potential risks, potential threats; works with Compliance, Biotrack and management for solutions.
- Communicates and documents with the ABC and/or BioTrack regarding the proper use and updates of the inventory tracking system(s).
- Facilitates training and “tailgate meetings” for facility team members as determined by Compliance Management.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be able to obtain a state marijuana employee authorization and pass a background check.
- Must be able to communicate with corporate management and on-site department effectively and professionally.
- Must perform well under high pressure situations.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle high stress situations.
- Self-Motivated.
- Strong understanding of business ethics and discernment.
- Eager to learn and develop professionally; teachable.
- Excellent organizational, multitasking, attention to detail, and prioritization skills.
- Ability to stay focused.
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic. Must be a team player with a “can do” attitude.
- Available to work weekends and holidays as needed.
- Reliable transportation.
Education & Experience Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Advanced Computer experience preferred (BioTrack, Office Suite, etc.).
- 1+ years of experience working with data systems management is strongly preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- The ability to respond quickly to sounds.
- The ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.
- The ability to see and respond to dangerous situations.
- The ability to wear personal protective gear correctly most of the day.
- The ability to sit or stand for up to 12 hours at a time.
- The ability to work in bright/hot/humid conditions.
- The ability to work in low or high light situations.
- Lifting, standing, sitting, walking, bending, reaching, push/pull, repetitive use of hands, grasping use of hands, visual activity.
- Exposure to limited hazardous chemicals.
