POSITION OBJECTIVE / OVERVIEW

To undertake efficient and effective construction and maintenance of concrete works and structures.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES / DUTIES

  • Set levels and construct formwork for a variety of concrete construction projects including roads, signage, building structures, kerb and gutters, footpaths and vehicular crossings;

  • Apply construction techniques for laying and joining of pre-cast concrete pipes, culverts and associated drainage structures;

  • Ensure all small plant is adequately maintained and serviced;

  • Ensure correct and adequate roadworks signage is installed and maintained;

  • Ensure timesheets, work records and plant returns are accurately completed on a daily basis;

  • Ensure all plant defects are recorded and promptly notified to the workshop; and

  • Any other duties and responsibilities as requested by the Ganger, Supervisor, Works Coordinator or Director of Engineering Services, within the skill set of the incumbent.

WORK ENVIRONMENT and PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work duties are primarily performed in an outdoors environment and regularly exposed to changing weather conditions. Accordingly, the position requires the capability to work outdoors particularly in the hot and humid local climate. The position also requires the physical capability to perform manual labouring tasks that require the full range of human movement such as climbing, shoveling, lifting, bending, twisting, pushing, squatting, reaching and stretching.

The position also requires work to be undertaken in remote areas that will involve camping overnight. Accordingly, the incumbent will be required to contribute to camps being maintained in a safe, clean and proper manner.

WH&S DUTY STATEMENT

All employees have a duty under Section 28 of the Workplace Health and Safety Act 2011.

While at work, all Quilpie Shire Council workers must:

Desired Skills and Experience

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Ability to pour, screed and finish concrete;

  • Ability to use small plant and equipment such as jackhammers and concrete saws;

  • Ability to read plans and set levels;

  • Current Queensland ‘MR’ Class Driver’s Licence (or obtain within 3 months);

  • General Construction Induction Card;

  • Considerable knowledge of the standard methods, materials, tools and equipment used in concrete construction and maintenance;

  • Considerable experience in the construction and maintenance of concrete structures;

  • Fitness to undertaken regular manual labour work; and

  • Ability to instruct and direct the work of skilled and unskilled assistants.


Desirable

  • Certificates of competency in various items of plant including Backhoe, Excavator and Skid Steer Loader;

  • Current Queensland ‘HR’ Class Driver’s Licence;

  • Experience with traffic control and the set out of signage; and

  • Knowledge on batching concrete.
