Job Description


The office of MP Sheehan, Member of Parliament for Sault Ste. Marie-Algoma is currently seeking a qualified candidate to fill two part-time (20h per week) Constituency Assistant positions.

About the role:

As a Constituency Assistant, you will be responsible for responding to constituency inquiries and ensuring the information is collected, prioritized and processed within a timely manner. You will make a difference in your community by attending and hosting community events, meetings and information sessions. You will share the changes and impacts of legislatures created in Ottawa, locally with your community members by crating info-letters, social media posts and updating the website.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Conducting constituent casework, follow-up and meetings related to such casework, including managing and supporting applications for constituents at the Federal level;
  • Responding to constituent correspondence ensuring it is collected, prioritized, processed, responded to and logged in a timely manner;
  • Provide administrative support in an office that offers a wide range of services;
  • Drafting of various types of documents, preparation of briefing documents, formatting of documents and event invitations, meeting planning, event organization, and filing;
  • Managing schedules, answering phones and responding to constituents who walk into the office;
  • Organize and attend community meetings and events with or on behalf of the MP as needed.

Qualifications


Education:

  • Post-secondary education or a combination of education, training and related experience.

Experiences:

  • Experience in a client service environment;
  • Experience providing administrative support;
  • Experience managing multiple conflicting priorities;
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook);
  • Knowledge of the riding of Sault Ste. Marie – Algoma.

Assets:

  • Bilingualism in both French and English;
  • Experience with case work and/or management of a portfolio of diverse clients;
  • Experience in communication, including but not limited to social media, graphic design, and website design;
  • Experience in a political environment.
