A Construction Worker performs physical labor on construction sites to help build, repair, and maintain buildings, roads, infrastructure, and other structures. The role is essential in residential, commercial, and industrial construction projects.
Main job responsibilities
- Prepare and clean construction sites
- Load and unload building materials and equipment
- Assist skilled tradespeople such as carpenters, electricians, and plumbers
- Operate basic construction tools and machinery
- Mix and pour concrete, asphalt, and other materials
- Dig trenches and perform earthworks
- Assemble scaffolding and temporary structures
- Follow construction plans and supervisor instructions
- Maintain workplace safety and use protective equipment
- Remove debris and hazardous materials from work areas
Common skills and qualifications
- Physical fitness and stamina
- Ability to use hand and power tools
- Knowledge of workplace safety procedures
- Teamwork and communication skills
- Basic understanding of construction methods
- White Card certification (Australia) is commonly required
- Experience with machinery or trade work is an advantage
