Kidz First Children's Hospital and Community Health has an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Paediatrician to join our experienced and energetic team to provide sabbatical cover for a fixed term of up to 12 months. This position with a focus on acute care.
Health New Zealand, Counties Manukau District is a dynamic and progressive organisation working with New Zealand's most culturally diverse population with high health needs. At Kidz First Children's Hospital and Community Health, secondary acute care is provided in emergency and inpatient settings, while a comprehensive range of outpatient/ambulatory care is delivered at the Manukau Health Park and other community-based facilities. Kidz First is one of the largest General Paediatric departments in New Zealand, serving a population of over 569,000, with over 124,000 being aged under 15 years.
The primary purpose of this position is to provide specialist paediatric medical assessment and management for children and young people in the acute care setting. Activities include 1:6 ward weeks (including the weekends), and rostered days working within the Emergency Department leading the team of paediatric RMOs. There is an opportunity to participate in the after-hours on-call roster. A component of ambulatory work is required to provide timely access for patients urgently referred to clinic. In addition, the paediatrician will support work in our day-stay unit.
The suitable candidate will be eligible for registration with the New Zealand Medical Council. Paediatric vocational scope of practice and Paediatric emergency medicine specialist (PEMS) training is preferred. Candidates expecting to achieve a Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians within the next 12 months will also be considered. A proven ability or competence in working with Maaori, Pacific and culturally diverse populations is preferred.
