Job Summary:

We are seeking a Controller to serve as the financial backbone of our organization, acting as the primary guardian of fiscal integrity and internal governance. The role is fundamentally rooted in technical accuracy and compliance, ensuring that every transaction—from raw material procurement to finished goods distribution—is recorded with precision and reflected accurately in the month-end close.

Beyond managing the ledger, the Controller will enforce the internal control frameworks that protect company assets and guarantee that financial reporting meets both regulatory and audit standards.

In a manufacturing context, they are the vital link between the production floor and the balance sheet, maintaining a rigorous watch over inventory valuation and cost accounting to provide a reliable, "single source of truth" for the company’s historical performance.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting and Analysis:

  • Oversee the development of the monthly, quarterly and year-end financial statements including Income Statements and Balance Sheets.
  • Working with the cross functional teams to build the annual Budget proposal.
  • Responsible for all major G/L account analysis and reconciliations.

Strategic Cost Management:

  • Prepare and manage product P&Ls to ensure profitable GM%.
  • Advanced Cash Flow Forecasting:
  • Working Capital Optimization: Ensuring there is enough liquidity to cover payroll and raw materials during seasonal dips.
  • Ensuring diligent cash collection.

Compliance and Canadian Tax Expertise:

  • HST/GST Filings - Seamless management of federal and provincial tax obligations.
  • SR&ED Tax Credits - Knowledge of how to claim Scientific Research and Experimental Development credits.
  • Understanding of Canadian tax laws and tax planning.
  • Audit Readiness - Keeping the books "clean" for potential future financing or acquisition. Working with auditors to ensure compliance with “ASPE”.

Team Management:

  • Motivating and coaching a team of Finance Associates.
  • Demonstrating an ability to assign tasks.
  • Building a talent pool for succession planning.
  • Strong contributor to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT).

Other:

  • Liaise with banks and insurance carriers, act as signing authority for credit card applications on behalf of the Company.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance or Business Administration
  • Chartered Professional Accountant

Experience:

  • 8+ years of experience in a Finance or Controller role
  • Experience in Consumer Packaged Goods, preferably food
  • Established track record of managing and developing direct reports
  • Member of a Leadership Team
  • Familiarity with Ontario labor laws and Toronto-specific overhead costs (utilities, rent)

Skills:

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication (written and verbal), presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and SAP.
  • Advanced Excel (Pivot tables, VLOOKUPs/XLOOKUPs, Macro knowledge)
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.

  • This position has 2 direct reports

Vacancy Status Disclosure:

This posting is for an existing vacancy. The position requires an on-site presence at our manufacturing facility in Mississauga, ON, 4 days per week and 1 day of remote work.

Salary:

The expected base pay ranges for this role is $110,00 to $120,000, excluding bonus. Final compensation will be determined based on the successful candidates experience, qualifications and internal equity.

Bonuses are dependent on employee and business performance.
