The Opportunity:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Social Worker to provide social work interventions across acute medical services, including renal care, at Middlemore Hospital. The service offers a comprehensive social work service to individuals with acute, chronic, or palliative medical conditions that require hospitalisation. The role is dynamic, involving support for patients throughout their admission, working with both patients and their families to ensure they are engaged in all aspects of their care and promoting the best possible discharge outcomes.
Initially, this position will focus on the renal service, providing social work support to patients with renal disease in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Your understanding of health and disability issues, combined with strong counselling skills, will enable you to work therapeutically and holistically with patients and their families/whaanau.
A commitment to working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team is essential, along with a solid understanding of and commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. As a Social Worker in this service, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of bi-cultural social work practice in a challenging, multidisciplinary environment.
Essential:
- New Zealand registered social worker with a current practising certificate
- High level of verbal and written interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Desired:
- Social Work experience in a health environment
- Knowledge of community agencies and networks
