The Opportunity:

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Speech Language Therapist to join our friendly team at the Eastern Community Health Service, based in Botany. This could be a fantastic opportunity to broaden your skill set.

This role will provide Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) assessment and intervention for adults with swallowing and acquired communication disorders, in their home and community settings. You will facilitate functional goals with the client in partnership with the inter-disciplinary team.

You will have the opportunity to develop your skills in instrumental assessments such as videofluoroscopy and FEES and refer to and link in with other agencies such as Assistive Augmentative Communication (AAC) providers to achieve best outcomes for your clients. Dependent on level of experience you may also have the opportunity to work with people who have had a laryngectomy and in the area of surgical voice restoration.

In this position, you will work closely with other allied health colleagues to ensure that there is a co-ordinated approach to patients’ needs. You will have access to ongoing professional development and supervision provided by senior colleagues, as well support from the Advanced Clinicians within the Specialist Community Health Service. You will be able to link in with SLT professional development opportunities provided across Counties Manukau District.

Essential:

  • NZSTA approved qualification to practice Speech & Language Therapy and eligibility for NZSTA membership
  • Solution focussed with excellent communication skills
  • Sound computer skills
  • Full, clean driver’s licence

Desired:

  • 2 + years relevant experience post registration
  • Advanced assessment skills
  • Experience in the community setting
