We are now looking for a Corporate Patent Attorney (m/f/d) to join the UPM Intellectual Property Rights team. The position may be located in Finland (Helsinki, Tampere, Lappeenranta), in Germany (Leuna) or in Poland (Wroclaw).

What you will do
This is an expert role focused on providing IP expertise to support UPM’s strategic initiatives and business needs, supporting effective protection for inventions and thoughtful management of IP-related risks.
You will:
- Develop, document, and execute IP strategy in collaboration with businesses and functions
- Contribute to managing UPM’s patent portfolios and supporting IP risk management
- Support the protection of inventions, enforcement of IP rights, provision of patent landscape insights and risk information, and development of internal IP practices in collaboration with relevant stakeholders
- Provide IP advisory support to new business development initiatives
- Help build IP awareness across the organization and demonstrate how IP can be used effectively to create value and support business growth
Who you are
- You hold a master’s degree in engineering, chemistry, materials science, or a related field
- You have at least two years relevant practical experience as a patent attorney in an in-house IPR function, as a patent examiner, or in private practice. Qualification for representation before a national or regional patent office (e.g., national patent attorney or European Patent Attorney) is considered an asset
- You approach your work proactively, can move tasks forward with focus and accountability, and are able to meet deadlines while prioritizing effectively. You can identify essential issues and communicate them clearly in writing
- You work well with others and value collaboration and knowledge sharing
- You communicate clearly and are fluent in spoken and written English. Additional language skills are considered an asset
- You are comfortable taking responsibility for your work, navigating differing viewpoints, and contributing to shared decisions with a variety of stakeholders
