We're looking for an experienced and compassionate Outreach Counsellor to join our Gambling Help Service. This is a rewarding role supporting individuals, families and communities affected by gambling harm while helping to build awareness and strengthen support networks across North Queensland.
Based in Townsville, you'll travel regularly throughout the North West region including Mount Isa, the Gulf and surrounding communities, delivering counselling, education and community engagement where it's needed most.
No two days are the same.

About the role
As our Gambling Help Service Outreach Counsellor you will:
- Provide evidence-based counselling to people experiencing gambling-related harm.
- Support family members and loved ones affected by gambling.
- Develop individual treatment plans and therapeutic goals.
- Deliver community education sessions promoting safer gambling practices.
- Build strong relationships with community organisations, health providers and gaming venues.
- Strengthen referral pathways across regional and remote communities.
- Work collaboratively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in culturally respectful ways.
- Travel throughout North Queensland, including regular overnight travel.
Skills and Experiences:
About you
You'll be someone who enjoys working independently while remaining connected to a supportive multidisciplinary team.
You'll bring:
- A degree in Social Work, Psychology or another relevant behavioural science.
- Experience providing therapeutic counselling.
- Strong assessment and risk management skills.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
- A genuine commitment to person-centred, trauma-informed practice.
- Confidence working across diverse communities.
- A current Driver Licence.
- (Or the ability to obtain) Blue Card, NDIS Worker Screening Clearance and First Aid Certificate and National Police Clearance.
