Description:
About the position
The position entails assessment, behavioural support, counselling, trauma informed practice and advocacy for children who are subject to Child Protection involvement. Counselling can be provided from the ages of four to eighteen years.
Key responsibilities will include but not limited to:
- Delivering high-quality, evidence based counselling to meet therapy goals and support management of challenging and complex behaviours
- Assessing child or young person's needs and developing personalised treatment plans to support both the child and care team.
- Collaborating with other healthcare professionals to ensure a holistic and best practice approach
- Maintaining detailed client records and documentation in line with professional standards
- Participating in continuous professional development to stay up-to-date with industry best practices
- Provide consistent, accurate and factual reporting requirements whilst also maintaining confidentiality at all times.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Possession of a relevant degree in Social Work, Psychology or Behavioural Sciences and eligibility for membership of a relevant professional association
- A developed understanding of disrupted attachment, trauma and the impact this can have on a child's behaviour and wellbeing
- Knowledge of an array of therapeutic and creative strategies to engage children during counselling sessions.
- Knowledge of behavioural support strategies to empower the child's care team to be able to best manage the child's behaviour and emotional needs.
- Highly developed written and oral communication skills, including the ability to prepare documents for reports and case reviews.
- An ability to work in a culturally sensitive manner with First Nations children and families and other CALD families.
- An understanding of the Queensland Child Protection System to be able to provide informed practice and work alongside statutory organisations.
- A current Driver License.
- Currently hold, and/or eligibility to obtain and maintain, both a Disability Worker Screening and a Working with Children Blue Card.
