At the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) | Te P Whakamarumaru, we are dedicated to our mission of keeping Aotearoa New Zealand and our people safe and secure. We collect and analyse intelligence and security concerns to protect New Zealand from threats such as foreign interference, espionage and terrorism.
The role
NZSIS's Intelligence Directorate is seeking a talented and motivated person to lead our talented teams who are charged with this critical task. This role has direct responsibility for all functions of the CEI unit, as well as being the directorate Mission Lead for CEI. This means you'll have the opportunity to shape and lead the strategic focus and priorities of our CEI intelligence efforts across ID.
Who we're looking for
As the successful candidate you will be passionate about developing people, have the drive and determination to manage a complex and diverse portfolio, as well as being comfortable operating at all levels of Government and across the domestic and international security sector.
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:
- strong people leadership skills with proven ability to lead and maintain highly performing teams and deliver results with impact through others
- a strategic focus with the judegment required to manage sensitive and at times politically significant issues
- strength in planning and risk management
- proven relationship and stakeholder management skills
- a broad understanding and extensive experience in the function of security intelligence, including clear understanding of the legislative basis and context from which NZSIS operates

Before you apply
Working within our unique environment means we have to ensure you're eligible for employment.
You must:
- Have been a New Zealand Citizen for at least 10 years
OR
Hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and ideally have been a citizen of the UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years
- Be eligible to obtain a Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance
- Ordinarily, this means you'll have a 15 year checkable background in countries NZSIS Vetting can make meaningful and reliable checks.
