Credit Risk Specialist

You will report to the Manager Credit and a member of the credit risk team, you will contribute to the development and growth of long-term relationships with BVCU members through appropriate adjudication and mitigation of retail and commercial credit risk. You will ensure that retail and commercial loan applications are supported with the necessary information, documents, and security, and that they are appropriately evaluated; approve loans within established limits; and review and recommend enhancements to policies and procedures to ensure appropriate controls are in place and sales and service needs are met. You will monitor delinquency and collection activities of accounts including loans, mortgages and lines of credit; verify the reason for delinquency and provide advice and assistance to members on options to mitigate loss and to resolve the delinquency; identify problem accounts and appropriate steps to be taken; and recommend action on all accounts requiring repossession or foreclosure actions. You will review, analyze and prepare files for court action, seizure or write-off and represent the credit union in court for trial, payment hearings, and settlement conferences; and maintain current knowledge of legal issues as it relates to collections. You will retain the services of external professionals such as lawyers, realtors and bailiffs to act on behalf of the credit union; and coordinate and dispose of all recaptured assets to maximize return for the credit union, within prescribed authority. You will recognize opportunities and take appropriate actions to promote and cross-sell credit union products and services and refer to other staff where appropriate.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of three years’ experience in retail and/or commercial lending or collections in the financial services industry, preferably with a credit union is desired. An individual with experience plus education and/or training equivalent to three years will also be considered.
