Job Description:
The Critical Care Technician functions as a clinical support partner in the Critical Care and Emergency Department settings. They assist the patient care team in the performance of various tasks and procedures for the critically ill patient or patients requiring special skills or observation. Act under the direction and supervision of appropriate clinical licensed personnel.This Pediatric Critical Care Tech position will be working full time in the Pediatric ICU (PICU) at Primary Children's Hospital, a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center, a Magnet Designated Hospital for nursing excellence, located in Salt Lake City, Utah.
We are a fast-paced highly specialized 28 bed PICU - serving patients from the Intermountain region including Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Nevada, Idaho, Colorado and beyond. This unit provides an excellent opportunity to work autonomously, increase your education, broaden your skill set and work hand in hand with Registered Nurses, physicians, LIPs, and respiratory therapists - all dedicated to working together to care for our critically ill infants, children, teens and adults. Per reporting data, our patients have the highest acuity of all reporting centers.
Common Diagnoses treated are:
- Multiple Trauma
- Non-Accidental Trauma (NAT)
- Surgeries (Neuro, Ortho, ENT, General)
- Pre and Post solid organ transplants (liver, kidney)
- Respiratory Distress (Jet, Oscillator, VDR)
- Metabolic Disorders
- Sepsis
- Extra- Corporeal Membranous Oxygenation (ECMO) Center (Offer VA and VV ECMO)
- Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
Hours : Full Time - 36 hours per week. Variable shifts available.
Minimum Qualifications
- If doing Point of Care Testing: Must have a High School diploma or GED in compliance with CLIA regulations.
- Current CNA Certification in the state of Utah, or EMT or Paramedic Certification in the state of Utah, or MA Certification ( Successful completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or one with which Intermountain Healthcare has a valid affiliation agreement) .
- Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Preferred Qualifications
- One year of CNA, EMT, Paramedic, or MA experience or other applicable healthcare experience.
- Current enrollment in nursing school.
- Basic computer skills.
Physical Requirements:
Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.

Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.

Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.

Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.

Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).

May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
