Cultivation Manager - Charlesville, Nova Scotia

We are seeking a Cultivation Manager with a strong background in agriculture and management to join our manufacturing team in Charlesville, Nova Scotia. This is a rewarding role for someone who would like to contribute to a local company that is a world leader in providing value-added marine plant-based products in the food and agricultural markets in over 80 countries worldwide.

As an ideal candidate for this role, you have a post-secondary education in Agriculture Science combined with five to ten years of related experience. You have proven yourself to be an effective manager with demonstrated leadership and relationship building skills. You are self- motivated and can work independently while exercising sound judgement to make advanced decisions.

The Key Technical Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Director of Cultivation, you are responsible for the growing and harvesting of marine plants at the Charleville cultivation facilities, including the bio-Room, greenhouse and outdoor cultivation tanks. The Cultivation Manager supports the staff in each of those areas. The Cultivation Manager prepares and meets budgeted schedules and expenses to ensure that the annual targeted quantity, quality and cost objectives are achieved.

You are ultimately responsible for the overall management of all cultivation facilities at the Charlesville plant.

More Specifically, the Cultivation Manager:

  • Secures targeted quantities of cultivated marine plants at budget cost and quality through management of the cultivation facility.
  • Manages all technical aspects associated with tank culture of marine plants to ensure optimum growing conditions to achieve quantity, quality and cost objectives.
  • Manages human resources in a manner to create and maintain a solid team and a positive working atmosphere.
  • Schedules weekly tank grow-outs, harvests and cleaning schedules by management of plant batches, plant quantity, plant quality and tank densities.
  • Develops operating objectives for the cultivation site through active participation in daily, weekly and monthly operational meetings, and corporate meetings with site staff.
  • Understands the impact of all variables through collection and analysis of data.
  • Develops and/or amends protocols that will improve quantity, quality or cost of the product.
  • Participates in the development of technology to cultivate alternative marine plant species.
  • Works closely with research and development to improve quality, quantity and cost.
  • Supports the company’s vision and policies regarding health and safety, corporate culture, and environmental management
