The successful applicant for this position will be an integral part of a professional team responsible for various aspects of cleaning.
This position is an excellent opportunity for career growth and advancement within the WRDSB. The WRDSB maintains a pool of Custodial Maintenance Helpers (CMH) who are employed to replace absent permanent Employees or assist with temporary or seasonal increases in workload. This is a non-permanent position. Candidates must be available for work up to 8 hours per day between 2:00 p.m. and Midnight (typical start time during the school year is 3:15 p.m. During school break periods (July & August, Winter and Spring Breaks) the hours of work will fall between 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The CMH rate of pay is $24.42/hour as per the CAMA/OSSTF Agreement.
A CMH must be available for work up to 40 hours per week, are not assigned to one specific location, and can be asked to work anywhere within the jurisdiction of the Waterloo Region District School Board.
Responsibilities:
General Housekeeping Duties
Dusting
Sanitizing surfaces
Wet and dry mopping
Polishing, scrubbing and vacuuming floors
Stripping and re-finishing floor surfaces
Performing minor maintenance (e.g. changing light bulbs etc.)
Working at heights (ladder work to 10 feet)
Garbage and recycle collection and removal (inside and outside)
Snow removal, salting and sanding as required for safety
General landscaping duties including weeding and lawn cutting
May include operating of equipment such as snow blowers and riding lawnmowers
General Responsibilities
Maintain cleanliness and security of the building and grounds in all respects
Perform related duties as required for the daily operations of the site.
Assist with arranging physical requirements for site rentals, in-school dances and activities
Maintenance of Logs and Files
General Expectations
Follow proper cleaning schedules to maintain expected standards of cleanliness
Follow Board practices, procedures in relation to attendance, health and safety
Work alone or as a member of a team
Co-operates with colleagues, staff and students to assist in creating positive working
relationships in the school community
- requirement to travel between locations when directed in a timely manner to meet system and student needs.
Qualifications:
Minimum grade 12 (OSSGD) is required or equivalent
Previous commercial/industrial cleaning experience preferred
Basic computer knowledge (E-mail, navigation of desktop and internet).
Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
Good attendance record
Prior to any applicant being accepted for this position, the external candidate will be required to demonstrate to the WRDSB that they have the ability to perform the bona fide essential duties of the job. Potential external candidates must agree to complete physical abilities pre-employment screening test at a service provider contracted by the WRDSB. All job offers are conditional on the candidate passing all components of this test.
