We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Customs Expert to manage and optimize our customs operations, ensure compliance with global trade regulations, and support strategic supply chain initiatives. This role is critical in overseeing inward processing relief (IPR) administration, customs control, consumption tax processes, and logistics compliance across our global network.
Key Responsibilities:
Customs Operations & IPR Administration
Manage operational tasks related to IPR authorization, including data consolidation and bill of discharge preparation.
Handle customs administration tasks such as preparing export documentation (invoices, packing lists, export declarations, certificates of origin).
Ensure accuracy and compliance in classification, origin, and valuation of goods.
Customs Control & Compliance
Monitor and control customs agents’ declarations to ensure legal compliance.
Approve and manage commodity codes for all product types within D365.
Maintain records, conduct audits, and initiate regularisation files where necessary.
Oversee origin management and communicate updates to internal teams.
Consumption Tax Administration
Provide advisory support for consumption tax obligations in the Netherlands and Belgium.
Prepare and review refund requests and tax return documents.
Logistics Support & Documentation
Safeguard and update logistics-related documents used by suppliers.
Provide customs-related data (commodity codes, VAT/EORI numbers) for internal and courier shipments.
Assist in optimizing logistics routes and third-party usage from a customs standpoint.
Stakeholder Communication & Liaison
Serve as the main contact for customs authorities in the Netherlands, EU, and UK (in collaboration with the Tax Department).
Work with freight forwarders and third parties to resolve clearance issues and streamline operations.
Strategic & Advisory Duties
Estimate tariffs, duties, and taxes; suggest cost-optimization measures.
Advise internal teams on regulatory updates and potential impacts on operations.
Deliver training and guidance on customs processes and compliance.
Identify and manage customs and tax risks associated with changes in the supply chain.
Key Skills & Qualifications:
Higher education (HBO/WO level of thinking) with 3+ years of relevant experience
Strong Excel skills (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, etc.)
Familiarity with IPR permits and related processes (including multi-location stock flow)
Ability to switch quickly between tasks and manage multiple priorities
Strong grasp of complex processes and ability to explain them clearly
Self-motivated, energetic, and highly professional work ethic
Excellent project management and organizational skills
Experience working with remote teams
Preferably experienced with AEO processes, Great Plains, and D365
Fluent in both Dutch and English (spoken and written)
