The Opportunity
We’re seeking a strategic and hands-on leader to drive data excellence across the Diocese. As the Data and Analytics Lead, you’ll shape and deliver enterprise-wide data initiatives that enhance decision-making, operational performance, and service impact.
Based at our Newcastle West office, leading a multidisciplinary team, you’ll champion a data-informed culture, ensure ethical and secure data use, and align data practices with business goals. Reporting to the Data, Architecture & Security Manager, you’ll act as a key bridge between ICT and the broader organisation, ensuring data capabilities evolve with compliance, innovation, and service needs.
The salary for this position is $135,000 per annum. However, the successful candidate's salary offer will reflect their relevant skills and experience and may be higher.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Team Management: Lead a multidisciplinary data and analytics team, setting strategic direction, managing resources, and ensuring alignment with organisational goals. Oversee performance, development, and operational leadership while fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Data Governance, Integration & Analytics Delivery: Drive the development and implementation of scalable data solutions, ensuring data quality, security, and compliance. Oversee data pipelines, integrations, and analytics platforms, and collaborate with stakeholders to prioritise projects, define KPIs, and deliver actionable insights that support business objectives.
Stakeholder Engagement & Knowledge Sharing: Act as a key liaison across departments, promoting data literacy and awareness. Provide expert guidance, training, and documentation to support data-informed decision-making. Champion best practices in cybersecurity, records management, and enterprise technology standards.
Product & Project Leadership: Manage the lifecycle of allocated data and technology products, including roadmaps, vendor coordination, documentation, and alignment with strategic goals. Lead requirement-gathering, solution design, and delivery in collaboration with internal teams and external partners.
Technology Operations & Compliance: Oversee the deployment, maintenance, and support of technology systems and assets. Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture, cybersecurity, and records management standards. Maintain accurate asset records and support audit, risk, and compliance reporting.
Skills and Experiences:
Experience/Criteria
- People Management: Proven ability to lead and inspire teams to achieve strategic goals.
- Strategic Leadership: Strong strategic thinking with the ability to align technology with business objectives.
- Data & Analytics Expertise: Skilled in data architecture, analytics, and governance, with experience leading cross-functional teams and delivering scalable, data-driven solutions.
- Regulatory Compliance: Knowledge of Australian data and cybersecurity regulations and standards (e.g. ISO/IEC 27001, NIST, Essential Eight).
- Stakeholder Engagement: Ability to build strong relationships with external stakeholders and collaborate on strategic initiatives.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage across all levels of the organisation.
- Business Acumen: Ability to translate business needs into effective data and technology strategies.
- Problem Solving: Strong analytical skills with the ability to develop effective solutions to complex problems.
- Continuous Learning: Commitment to staying current with emerging trends and technologies.
- Best-Practice Frameworks: Familiarity with frameworks such as ITIL, project management, risk management, and IT governance.
- Sector Experience: Experience in not-for-profit, education, or social services is valued but not essential.
- Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Data & Analytics; or an equivalent combination of knowledge gained through education, training and /or experience.
- Current Class C Driver’s Licence.
- Current NSW Working With Children Check (WWCC) for paid employment.
- Possession of Data & Analytics training or certification.
- Possession of Data Engineering/Integration training or certification.
- Tertiary qualifications in team leadership or management.
- Possession of an Enterprise Architecture framework certification such as TOGAF.
- Tertiary qualifications in cybersecurity or industry certifications such as ISC2, EC-Council, CompTIA, ACS, Microsoft, or others.
- Possession of Business Intelligence training or certification.
- Possession of an IT Service Management certification such as ITIL.
- Possession of a Project Management certification such as PMBOK, PRINCE 2 or Agile.
- Possession of a Change Management Certification such as Prosci or CCMP.
- Possession of other technology industry or vendor certifications, such as: ServiceNow, Microsoft, HPE/Aruba, Cisco, CompTIA, Zscaler, Okta, Apple (or others).
