We are now looking for a Data Engineering Team Lead! At SOK we’ve launched a new phase in developing SOK’s data, analytics, and AI capabilities by establishing a centralized competence unit that already employs nearly 40 experts. While team members work across different business units, the competence unit serves as a shared support and development platform – strengthening expertise, collaboration, and impact throughout SOK. The role requires conversational skills in Finnish.

Your responsibilities and requirements

In this role, you’ll be hands-on with data integrations and data platform development that, through analytics and AI, enhance customer experience, sales, and/or profitability. Solutions cover everything from designing integration architecture, building infrastructure, and implementing data pipelines to modeling data in databases. You’ll ensure that data quality monitoring and maintenance are at a high level and that data products are reliable and widely available. At the same time, you’ll keep track of and adopt the latest technologies while driving your team’s expertise forward. You’ll also act as a product owner for certain data integration tools.

You’ll lead a team of about 10 people and be responsible for their competence development. Daily task management comes from the functional cross-business teams. You’ll work broadly across different business units and data development teams. Within the competence unit, alongside Data Engineering, we also have AI, Analytics, and AI & Data Solutions teams. This role reports to the Director of AI & Analytics.

The position is located at Ässäkeskus in Vallila, Helsinki. We embrace a hybrid way of working, combining flexibility with the benefits of in-person collaboration. To thrive in this role, we’d love to see you at the office at least 2–3 days a week.

What we are hoping from you

Competence
development leadership
  • Experience in people leadership and competence development
  • You are familiar with modern ways of working: competence centers, cross-functional teams, product management, agile methods, DevOps
  • Proven track record in leading high-quality data work

Technical expertise
  • Hands-on experience in data infrastructure, integrations, and databases
  • Strong technical expertise in the data area (e.g. AWS, SQL, Snowflake, data integration and orchestration tools such as dbt and ADE) and practical programming skills (e.g. Python)
  • Solid background in data modeling and transformation
  • Ability to apply cutting-edge tech to deliver new business solutions

We also hope that you are business- and customer-oriented, viewing data as valuable product. You take initiative, stay organized, and are always eager to learn, while communicating confidently in English and holding conversational skills in Finnish.
