Overview
The Insurance Coordinator plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of insurance processes within a medical or dental office. This position is responsible for managing insurance verification, coordinating patient records, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations. Responsibilities
- Verify patient insurance coverage and benefits prior to appointments.
- Coordinate the submission of insurance claims and follow up on outstanding claims.
- Maintain accurate medical records and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Utilize CPT coding for accurate billing and coding practices.
- Communicate effectively with patients regarding their insurance inquiries and billing issues.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure proper documentation for claims processing.
- Assist in the training of staff on insurance procedures and coding requirements.
- Keep abreast of changes in insurance policies, regulations, and coding standards.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of managed care principles and practices.
- Previous experience in a medical office or dental office setting is preferred.
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality.
- Proficient in CPT codes.
- Solid understanding of medical terminology and documentation standards.
- Experience with insurance verification processes and managing medical records.
- Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with patients and healthcare providers.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
