Overview
The Insurance Coordinator plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of insurance processes within a medical or dental office. This position is responsible for managing insurance verification, coordinating patient records, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managed care and medical office operations, with a thorough understanding of medical terminology and coding practices.

Responsibilities

  • Verify patient insurance coverage and benefits prior to appointments.
  • Coordinate the submission of insurance claims and follow up on outstanding claims.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Utilize CPT coding for accurate billing and coding practices.
  • Communicate effectively with patients regarding their insurance inquiries and billing issues.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure proper documentation for claims processing.
  • Assist in the training of staff on insurance procedures and coding requirements.
  • Keep abreast of changes in insurance policies, regulations, and coding standards.

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of managed care principles and practices.
  • Previous experience in a medical office or dental office setting is preferred.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality.
  • Proficient in CPT codes.
  • Solid understanding of medical terminology and documentation standards.
  • Experience with insurance verification processes and managing medical records.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with patients and healthcare providers.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
