Department Secretary Cardiac Rehab

Job Description:

Under the direction of nursing leadership, the Health Unit Coordinator facilitates unit organization and patient care by assisting in the coordination of patient, nursing, physician, and other health care provider office and clerical activities.

Full time, 40 hrs/week

Cardiac Rehab Unit, St Joe's Hospital - Denver, CO

Scope

1.Assists and/or directs visitors and patients to various locations in the hospital when appropriate. Calls for an escort when necessary. Receives patients and notifies appropriate area of patients arrival. Monitors patient wait times and keeps patients updated on progress.
2. May schedules procedures. Provides instructions, dietary restrictions, and exam specific preparations to the individual scheduling the procedure. Generates exam requisitions. Reschedules patient when necessary. Documents in accordance with regulatory, hospital, and unit guidelines. May enter orders in Lawson as directed.
3. Generates admission forms by gathering/updating patient demographic and insurance information. Correctly obtains patient information while helping patient with worksheet and pertinent data. Prepares, updates, prints, and distributes department patient schedules.
4. Answers multi-line telephone. Screens, responds, and directs physician and employee calls using proper phone etiquette. Receives mail, messages, and other items; notifies appropriate personnel.
5. Promotes mission, vision, and values of SCL Health, and abides by service behavior standards.
6. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Required
High School Diploma or equivalent is required
Basic Cardiac Life Support certification required at hire or must be attained within 45 days of hire
One year clerical and computer experience with word processing skills in a medical setting is required

Physical Requirements:

Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.- and -Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.- and -Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.- and -Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.- and -Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).- and -May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

$18.38 - $26.65
