As a Deputy Sheriff with the CCSO, you'll become part of an elite team committed to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for all Charleston County residents. This unique position combines focused school-based security with the broader responsibilities of a respected law enforcement professional. While your primary focus will be ensuring a safe learning environment within assigned schools – protecting students, employees, and visitors – you'll also be equipped to respond to critical incidents and support the community during severe weather events.

Minimum Qualifications
- At least 21 years old and a U.S. Citizen
- A high school graduate or have a GED; Qualified applicants with a college degree may receive enhanced compensation.
- A minimum of two (2) years of certified law enforcement experience in South Carolina. SRO certification is highly desirable. Qualified applicants with certified law enforcement may receive enhanced compensation.
- A valid South Carolina licensed driver; or the ability to obtain a South Carolina driver’s license.
- Honorably discharged from the military (if applicable).
- Have no pending cases or criminal felony convictions (misdemeanors may require expungement).
- No THC or Marijuana use within 365 days; some drugs are automatic disqualifiers.
- No student loans in default status.
- No criminal convictions
If you meet these criteria, you will need to successfully complete our multi-phase hiring process, which includes a two-phase background investigation, a psychological evaluation, and an oral interview.
