Position Title: Pathways to Growth Part Time Developmental Disability Teacher

Pay rate: $19-$21/per hour based on experience and skill set.

Contract: 1-year contract with strong chances of renewal based on performance, and funding.

Benefits: Benefits Not Included.

Hours a week: 22.5 Hours/Week

Start date: July 29, 2026.

Reports to: Program Manager

Onsite Work: In-person position– Primarily in-person in Brampton/Mississauga Location

Position Summary

At Pathways to Growth, we have a special team that strives to service the Developmental Disability Community and focus on helping those with their literacy skills, independence, and employment upskilling. We are hiring for an energetic and passionate person for our role of Developmental Disability Teacher. This role involves providing personalized instruction that supports the development of a variety of subjects and programming, that both help to develop the clientele and expand the organization. Program delivery is offered in a variety of environments such as one-on-one, group sessions, online classes and in-person classes depending on the needs of the business. This position also includes occasional classroom support and coverage as needed.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Operational Tasks:

  • Must be comfortable working with youth and adults, more specifically youth and adults with developmental disabilities and familiar with common adult education methodologies.
  • Develop learning materials, learning strategies and deliver individualized programming focused on learners’ needs and goals in-person and online.
  • Conduct in-person registration and assessments for interested clients.
  • Assist Program Manager to develop innovative and creative ideas for all programming to cater to our target demographic.
  • Maintain and coordinate classroom scheduling, conduct intakes and communicate with parents/guardians when necessary.
  • Lead or support specialized in-person programs focused on life skills, wellness, arts, literacy, ensuring a safe and supportive environment.
  • Occasional workshop delivery to community partner agencies, based on community needs and programming available.
  • Offer occasional coverage and instructional support for other instructors or programs, maintaining continuity and engagement in the classroom setting.
  • Complete attendance records, learner progress reports, and other required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Provide customer service to parents/guardians and all other walk-ins inquiring about Pathways to Growth and The Learning Place.
  • Will need to use online platforms such as Zoom and MS Teams to deliver workshops when required.
  • Communicate with Program Manager on an on-going basis throughout the week.
  • Must assist Program Manager in community outreach and facilitating partnership meetings for the interest of the program.
  • Must participate and execute fundraising and community engagement events throughout the year.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Pathways to Growth Program Manager

Curriculum Development

  • Must be familiar with curriculum planning, creating, and executing.
  • Curriculum must be relevant and varied for all learners’ interests, abilities, goals, and the structure of the program.
  • Integrate digital learning methods into programming when possible and encourage the use of computers, tablets and other learning applications.
  • Find creative resources for curriculum creation and incorporate them into the program (activities, entertaining learning, collaboration, team building).

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Special Education, or Child Youth Care.
  • Up to date First Aid Certificate Level C
  • A vulnerable sector check will be required as a condition upon offer of employment
  • Related experience working with adults with Developmental Disabilities/Autism/Dual Diagnosis/Metal Health disorders.
  • Experience supporting individuals with unique and challenging behaviors in active treatment environments an asset but not necessary.
  • Demonstrated understanding and training supporting individuals with ASD.
  • Highly motivated and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding disability and social equity issues would be an asset.
  • Understanding the strengths and challenges of adults with disabilities or multiple barriers and how to teach effectively while considering them, including the impact of learning disabilities on education.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, tact, discretion, problem-solving skills and to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks for multiple stakeholders is critical to be successful in this role.
  • Must be a self-starter and take a high degree of ownership for assigned tasks.
  • Must be flexible to jump in and do what is needed to support the organizational goals and to meet objectives set forth by Program Manager and Executive Director.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation is required
  • Must be able to travel between both our Mississauga and Brampton locations when needed.

Working Environment

  • Flexible work hours are required but standard workday will be:
  • Monday-Tuesday 8:30am-3:30pm, Wednesday 8:30am -12:30pm, Thursday 8:30 am – 1:00 pm.
  • In-person to be conducted in Brampton Location primarily, with occasional to travel to sister location in Mississauga if need be (in the cases of coverage, supplying, assistance, etc.)
  • During times of special projects or when asked – the hours of work may be beyond those listed and will be paid accordingly.
  • Our environment is dynamic and fast paced – must be able to interact with a variety of community members, on the go staff as well as learners.
  • Some lifting of small boxes and other small tasks may be needed.
  • Would be ideal to have access to a vehicle as travel will be needed.
