Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Developmental Service Worker to provide essential support and care to individuals with developmental disabilities. This role involves working closely with clients in various settings, including assisted living, home care, and community programs. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to enhancing the quality of life for those they serve and possess relevant experience in patient care, senior care, or working with people with disabilities. Prior experience in nursing homes or residential community with autistic adult or children is highly valued. The Developmental Service Worker plays a vital role in fostering independence, safety, and well-being for clients through personalized support and caregiving.
Duties
- Implement BSP's and assist with daily living activities
- Promote independence, inclusion, and personal goal achievement
- Provide personal care with dignity and respect
- Support communication and self-expression using multiple methods
- Apply behavioral techniques and interventions
- Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment
- Support clients during outings or community activities to encourage social engagement
- Monitor and report changes in clients’ health status or behavior to supervisors or healthcare professionals
- Assist with heavy lifting or physical support for clients requiring mobility assistance
- Follow all safety guidelines and protocols to ensure a secure environment for clients and staff
Requirements
- Experience in assisted living, nursing home, or home care environments preferred
- Diploma in the social services field (e.g., Social Service Worker, Developmental Services Worker, Child and Youth Worker)
- Minimum 1 year experience in the social services field, particularly in residential treatment for developmental adults and/or children with complex developmental needs, autism spectrum disorder, schizophrenic spectrum disorders, mental illness, and dual diagnosis
- Experience and sound knowledge of MCCSS guidelines and Quality Assurance Management (QAM) requirements for the licensing of residential programs is an asset
- Knowledge of patient care techniques, medication administration, and caregiving best practices
- Experience working with people with disabilities is highly desirable
- Ability to handle heavy lifting safely and perform physically demanding tasks
- Compassionate attitude with excellent communication skills
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Flexibility to work various shifts including evenings or weekends if required
- Certification in caregiving, CPR, or first aid is a plus but not mandatory
- Valid driver’s license may be preferred for community outings or client transportation responsibilities
