We are seeking a Device Category Manager to join Pharmac on a 12-month fixed term to provide parental leave cover.
This is an opportunity to be at the core of Pharmac's operations and help build a new approach to medical device purchasing and funding in the public health system.
The role sits within our Device Funding team, which is responsible for leading Pharmac's work to build a catalogue of medical devices and develop the commercial arrangements with suppliers of medical devices to Health New Zealand.
In this rewarding and challenging role, you would have responsibility for several categories, securing new supplier agreements for relevant medical devices and contributing to long-term market management in those areas.
The role would see you engaging and seeking advice from a wide range of stakeholders, including clinical, technical and operational experts within Health New Zealand, industry representative bodies and patient advocacy groups.
Our Device Category Manager position is Pharmac band 8, with an appointment range anticipated to be between $108,170 - $146,348 total remuneration, inclusive of 3% KiwiSaver Employer contribution. The appointment salary is expected to be up to the midpoint of the band, subject to the preferred candidate's relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.

Your high level of analytical ability and problem solving will be critical when presenting clear business cases derived from complex scientific, clinical, and financial data. Your ability to work with ease with clinicians and senior stakeholders will be essential to your success within this role.
Our ideal candidate would have:
- Passion for the work Pharmac does and the impact you could have in this role.
- Up to date understanding of the health sector and issues in the hospital medical devices industry.
- Knowledge of hospital medical devices and the medical device sector.
- Strong commercial mindset, with an ability to take a strategic perspective and think systematically.
- Contract negotiation skills, risk management and the ability to understand legal considerations.
- Personal maturity, diplomacy, tactfulness and handles situations with sensitivity.
The role has a level of autonomy and applicants will need to be self-driven to manage time-pressured work but also need to work as part of a team. You will be part of the Device Funding team and supported to learn and succeed in our dynamic workplace.
