Dietary Aide/Asst
Responsibilities:
Newport News Behavioral Health Center is a 108 bed intensive and highly structured residential treatment for psychiatric and behavioral health needs of adolescent males and females ages 11-18yrs. Newport News has an on-site certified school, therapists, and vocational programming. Newport News, VA is a beautiful seaside city, rich in maritime history and conveniently located to DC and other major North Eastern cities.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
:

  • Operates dishwashing machine in pulling, loading, and unloading positions.
  • Maintains adequate stock of food and non-food supplies before and during meal service.
  • Cleans service areas and tables in dining room between meals.
  • Washes and sanitizes pots, pans, utensils, and puts away when dry.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly dish room.
  • Practices kitchen safety rules.
  • Practices high standard for food service sanitation rules and regulations.
  • Maintains high standards of personal hygiene, food service safety and sanitation.
  • Assists in food preparation.
  • Disposes of trash and garbage.
  • Collects meal tickets.
  • Serves meals to residents, staff, and visitors.
  • Maintains food and supplies in resident and staff snack areas.
  • Maintains stock and sanitation in dispenser machines.
  • Puts food and supplies away in storerooms, refrigerators, and freezer.
  • Helps train and orient new Food Service Workers.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
  • Participates in facility-wide in-service training and staff education programs.

SERVICE STANDARDS/PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT FUNCTION:

  • Promotes the philosophy, goals and objectives of the facility by becoming familiar with and complying with facility and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintains licenses and certifications required for the position.
  • Attends mandatory training annually to maintain competency.
  • Complies with facility and department policies and procedures.
  • Interacts and communicates with fellow employees in a manner that promotes a cooperative team-work environment.
  • Accepts facility Code of Conduct and Dress Code.
  • Seeks additional knowledge and training to develop and maintain skills.
  • Understands and supports the mission of the facility and department.
  • Uses appropriate counseling skills by de-escalating aggression, using active listening skills, using appropriate tone and volume of voice, providing a high frequency and variety of positive reinforcements, maintaining appropriate boundaries, and promoting a positive peer culture.
  • Consistently meets facility and regulatory training requirements by attending all mandatory meetings and staff training sessions as required.

Qualifications:
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MUST have a high school diploma or GED. Previous experience in Food Service preferred.
