Gulf Coast Social Services is looking for a compassionate Direct Service Worker to provide direct care "companionship services" for the care, fellowship, and protection of persons who, because of advanced age or physical or mental infirmity, cannot care for themselves and to help them reach their maximum potential.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Provide direct care "companionship services" as needed. Services may include assistance with grooming, bathing, dressing, meal preparation, feeding, toileting, clothes washing, diaper changing, assistance with ambulation, providing client transportation for shopping/ appointments, leisure/ community activities and other similar personal care services at the time and place defined in each assigned client's Individual Service Plan.
• Provide training in behavioral, social and independent living skills to the client, as required by the client's Individual Service Plan.
• Monitor your clients(s) during each assigned shift, as required by the client's Individual Service Plan. Accurately complete all required documentation, including on a daily basis your client's documentation of services provided as event occur, and the status of the client(s) to be reported on progress notes and/or service logs.
• Follow all established Agency and programmatic procedures for reporting unusual and/or critical incidents involving clients.
• Perform non-complex medical task as prescribed in the client's Individual Service Plan only when appropriately trained to do so by medical personnel. Non-complex task may include administering medication.
• Perform all job duties in accordance with prescribed safe work practices, including the use of closed-toe, non-slip sole shoes, using proper body mechanics and/or lifting devices, and the consistent practice of universal precautions.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• When required by a client's Individual Service Plan to transport, staff must be at least 23 years of age, have a valid Louisiana drivers' license and vehicle registration. Louisiana automobile liability insurance and unlimited access to a reliable vehicle in safe operating condition with a current Louisiana inspection sticker.
• The ability to bend, stoop, sit, stand, reach and lift as deistnated by a client's Individual Service Plan. Possess the physical stamina required to help individuals who need assistance with ambulation and the emotional strength necessary to work with individuals who need personal care services.
• Must demonstrate the core values of professionalism, including well-groomed appearance and attire, excellent interpersonal skills, friendly and open demeanor, punctuality, organization and dedication to the job.
• Must have sufficient communication and language skills to perform duties and interact effectively with clients and other staff persons. Must have a working email address for alerts/ communication from state agencies and GCSS.
• Must have the qualities of patience, empathy, dependability and the ability to teach others. Must possess the knowledge, skills and abilities to adequately provide care and support to individuals with disabilities, the ailing and/or the elderly.
• Must have the ability to read and write at a level that ensures understanding of the client's services plan, ability to document services providing and carry out directions competently as assigned.
