Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and personal hygiene.
  • Monitor patients’ vital signs and observe for any changes in health or behavior, documenting findings accurately while respecting patient privacy and HIPAA regulations.
  • Support medication administration and manage care plans tailored to individual needs, ensuring compliance with all safety protocols.
  • Operate patient transfer methods such as Hoyer lifts and manual handling techniques to ensure safe mobility.
  • Prepare nutritious meals and assist with meal planning while maintaining cleanliness in food preparation areas.
  • Provide transportation assistance for appointments, errands, or community outings to promote social engagement and independence.
  • Engage residents in meaningful activities that support cognitive function and emotional well-being, including dementia and Alzheimer’s care.
  • Maintain a clean, safe environment by performing routine cleaning tasks and adhering to infection control standards.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, families, and healthcare teams to coordinate care and address individual needs.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies with first aid or CPR when necessary, following established protocols for hospice or home health situations.

Experience

  • Prior experience working in group homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home health environments is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with patient observation techniques, medication administration, and vital signs monitoring is essential.
  • Experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism or intellectual disabilities supports your success in this role.
  • Knowledge of dementia care, memory care strategies, Alzheimer’s support techniques, and resident rights enhances your ability to provide compassionate care.
  • Hands-on experience with patient transfer methods like Hoyer lifts or other mobility aids is advantageous.
  • Certification in first aid and CPR is required; additional certifications related to healthcare or caregiving are a plus.
  • Ability to handle heavy lifting safely and perform manual handling tasks while maintaining proper body mechanics is necessary.
  • Strong communication skills combined with patience and empathy are vital for building trusting relationships with residents and their families.
