Direct Support Professional (DSP) – Male Preferred (Mentor Role)
Part-Time | Mays Landing, NJ (08330)
Pay: $23–$25/hour

We are seeking a motivated and engaging male Direct Support Professional (DSP) to support a young adult in the Mays Landing area. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys mentoring and building meaningful connections while promoting independence and community involvement.

About the Individual:

He is an engaging young adult with a strong interest in sports, including both watching and participating in physical activities. He is actively working toward employment, independence, and building social connections within his community.

The family is seeking a younger male staff member who can serve as both a support professional and positive role model, helping foster growth, confidence, and independence.

Schedule:

  • Approximately 2 days per week
  • Hours may vary based on schedule and employment goals

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide community-based support and engagement
  • Assist with social skill development and building friendships
  • Support participation in recreational activities, especially sports-related
  • Encourage and assist with job readiness and employment goals
  • Help develop independence, routine, and time management skills
  • Provide verbal prompts and guidance for daily tasks and responsibilities
  • Support coping strategies and emotional regulation as needed
  • Assist with medication reminders and structure (as trained and required)
  • Encourage safe decision-making and positive behavior in the community

Support Needs:

  • Benefits from mentorship-style support and structure
  • May need support with time management and task initiation
  • History of anxiety, intrusive thoughts, and emotional regulation challenges
  • Can become overwhelmed and may require calm redirection and support
  • Independent in many daily living skills but benefits from guidance and encouragement

Qualifications:

  • Experience with IDD, autism, or behavioral health preferred
  • Strong communication, patience, and mentorship skills
  • Ability to build rapport and positive relationships
  • Interest in sports or recreational activities is a plus
  • Reliable transportation preferred
  • Must meet all NJ DDD DSP requirements
