Director Business Development

Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive business development strategies that align with company goals.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to identify market opportunities, establish achievable targets, and develop long-term growth plans.
  • Monitor industry trends, competitor activities, and emerging regulatory impacts to refine strategic initiatives.

Market Expansion and Client Acquisition:

  • Identify and target new business opportunities across key sectors and regions.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with multinational corporations, SMEs, and industry stakeholders.
  • Drive end-to-end sales cycles from prospecting to closing, ensuring tailored freight forwarding solutions that meet client needs and drive profitability.

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Encourage cross-functional collaboration with marketing, operations, and customer service teams to deliver seamless client experiences.

Partnership & Alliance Building:

  • Forge strategic alliances with industry partners, carriers, technology providers, and logistics innovators.
  • Negotiate key contracts and service agreements that benefit the organisation and solidify long-term partnerships.
  • Establish frameworks for collaboration that enhance service offerings and operational efficiencies.

Financial Management and Reporting:

  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and performance metrics to ensure revenue targets and ROI are achieved.
  • Analyze business data and market intelligence to inform decisions, optimise pricing strategies, and drive sustainable growth.
  • Report regularly to senior management on progress, market trends, and strategic adjustments.

Compliance and Operational Excellence:

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of international trade regulations, customs procedures, and compliance requirements.
  • Work closely with operations to ensure timely and efficient service delivery that meets regulatory standards.
  • Implement best practices in logistics management to boost service quality and operational performance.

Skills & Abilities

  • Deep understanding of freight forwarding operations, global supply chain dynamics, and international trade compliance.
  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to drive and inspire a high-energy team.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical mindset and proficiency in CRM, TMS, or related logistics platforms.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, competitive, and ever-changing industry environment.

Education & Experience

  • At least 10 years in business development, with a significant portion in the freight forwarding, logistics, or transportation sectors.
  • Minimum 5 years in a senior leadership role with a proven track record of driving revenue growth and market expansion.
  • Demonstrable experience in negotiating and closing high-value contracts and building strategic partnerships.
