General Description:
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer the Human Resources Director acts as a strategic business partner who will provide consulting services, representation, support and advice for complex labour and employment related matters. The Director will work with all stakeholders including management, staff, and union partners to foster a positive employee relations climate.
Summary of Position:
- Cultivate a culture that promotes inclusion, innovation, productivity, and collaboration.
- Build strong relationships, listen intently, and utilize clear & transparent communication.
- Design, develop and deliver tailored HR solutions by providing coaching and consultative support to management and employees on organizational diagnosis, leadership development, talent and performance management, change and people management in both the corporate and represented environments.
- Promote, foster and sustain an open door policy to HR services: administration and interpretation of human resources policies, procedures, employment equity and compliance in all labour practices related to Employment and Compensation, Personnel Management, Labour Relations–Management, Legal, MOL, ESA and Human Rights matters, from inquiry to resolution.
- Responsible for administration, application and interpretation of multiple collective agreements
- Capable of Analysis and review of Collective Agreement renewals, to ensure consistency in application for personnel management and provide estimates in costing and contractual increases
- Support and/or facilitate Bargaining unit meetings such as Negotiations, Collective Agreement disputes, grievances and Labour Relations workplace violations
- Resolve complex employee matters requiring investigations, conflict resolution and discipline by providing recommendations and constructive solutions
- Assess and prepare outgoing correspondence related to unresolved or incoming claims: Employment, Terminations, Human Rights and Labour Standards
- Utilize sound judgment when engaging third party service providers and legal council
- Manage and oversee the recruitment, selection and on-boarding process and provide guidance and support to the COO as required.
- Establish effective recruitment and selection practices, create, maintain and update profiles and competencies
- Demonstrate strong influential and negotiations skills and fluency in Business Acumen and legislation
- Provide a full range of services in varying HR and personnel related topics as required
- Point of contact for management, employees and representing unions
- Create a culture of fair treatment and positive employee relations
Must Have:
- Must have labour relations experience
- Able to work in multi-unit organization
- Sound knowledge of all provincial legislation
- 8+ years of generalist experience
- Flexible to work evenings and weekends
- Ability to travel
- Bachelor’s degree
Must be able to pass a Police Criminal Background Check.
