Ophthalmic Consultants of the Capital Region provides a comprehensive model of eye care with experienced specialists, ophthalmologists, optometrists, and opticians providing patient-centered eye expertise in Albany, Clifton Park, Schenectady, Schodack, and Troy. Position Summary:
The Director of Finance is primarily responsible for preparing and implementing financial strategy, policies and procedures and financial controls framework in order to ensure the achievement of institution wise financial objectives, controls and financial stability. They are responsible for all aspects of financial reporting for the practice and its real estate holding company to include, but not limited to, the annual budget and monthly financial reviews and presentations. They will also work closely with executive leadership to develop strategies that enhance revenue management and ensure compliance with all financial regulations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Maintains all financial records.
- Monitors the financial performance of the practice and ensures reporting is accurate and timely.
- Develops and directs the overall financial policies and procedures for the practice.
- Collaborates with the CEO and other members of the administration team to develop the organization’s budget and provides ongoing oversight on the overall performance of the practice as compared to budget.
- Models any proposed initiative and leads proforma development and discussion.
- Ensures proper auditing and financial controls are in place.
- Prepares and presents required financial reporting: monthly, quarterly, annually and as requested for the practice and realty company.
- Oversees accounts payable and payroll (in collaboration with HR), purchasing, IT, insurance, contracting and long-range forecasting. Facilitates any needed interaction amongst departments.
- Participates as a member of the executive leadership team to develop overall strategic plan; provides strategic direction, in collaboration with CEO, through strategy formulation, decision making, forecast/budgeting and its implementation and monitoring.
- Meets with physicians, as needed, to review practice and individual financial performance.
- Attend practice board meetings; present financial data.
- Attends and participates in leadership meetings.
- Coordinates and runs department meetings with direct reports/staff.
- Participates in interviewing, hiring and training as needed.
- Travel to/between five locations, as needed.
- Perform other duties as needed/assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
- 10 years financial management experience.
- Software proficiency, specifically with Microsoft products.
- Strong financial acumen and knowledge of healthcare finance and reimbursement.
- Expertise in modeling, analysis and problem solving; able to drive decision making based on data.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle for travel.
- Ability to effectively and respectfully communicate with physicians, colleagues, managers, staff and others.
- Ability to articulate financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- Exceptional listening skills.
- Articulate and professional in manner and presentation.
- Results Driven. Strives for improving the delivery of services with a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Team player who is an active participant as a team member and establishes strong working relationships with teammates and across the organization.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree.
- CPA.
- 5 years’ experience in a healthcare setting.
- Knowledge and experience in information systems.
- Familiar with payer contracting, insurance policy contracting.
Additional Information:
This position requires work to be performed on-site in one or more of our office locations and will periodically require more than 40 hours a week including routine meetings after regular business hours or extended hours during the budget period or for special projects. Ability to travel to and between our office locations is required. Occasional travel to conferences, as needed. All applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
