The Director performs in the role as the hospitals’ senior financial representative and liaison with Health System for financial matters. This role is responsible for performing effective management of resources, both human capital and material, analysis and business management, including work/oversight in any combination of the following: business and decision analytics, financial planning and management, procurement, general business operations, facilities management, staff supervision, performance improvement initiatives, and/or information technology coordination in collaboration with administration, nursing, clinical operations, support, and/or medical staff.
In addition, the Director explores and leads identifying issues related to existing programs and recommending effective, timely solutions. Responsible for the efficient management of assigned work areas and, leads the integration of services within the organizational setting. This individual is accountable for financial analysis and identifying improvement opportunities in operations in scope.
Finally, the Director of Finance, Community Hospitals performs in the role as the hospital’s senior financial representative and liaison with Health System for financial matters. Performs duties and participates in special projects and other assignments as needed in order to support the mission of the VCUHS.
- Provides a high level of direct support to executives leading clinical operations.
- Provides operations financial leadership in support of the community hospitals and functions as a member of the hospital presidents’ senior leadership teams.
- Presents financial results to respective hospital leadership teams, as well as to facility-level committees and boards of directors.
- Ensure governance and leadership have confidence in the competence and collaboration of Finance in accounting and financial reporting, as well as equitable strategic and tactical planning, business plan development, analyses, and recommendations.
- Collaborates with other Finance leaders in the interpretation of historic results and trends to support operations and hospital leadership.
- Support the planning process, in collaboration with leaders within the hospitals and clinics, and other financial resources such as budget, cost accounting, and related areas such as decision support/data warehouse, for the hospitals’ annual financial and capital plans.
- Prior experience with financial planning, analytics, and ERP platforms
- Up to 40% travel to and from the facilities.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:
Certified Public Accountant preferred

Certified Public Accountant preferred
Level and Type of Experience Required:
Minimum seven (7) years of Finance experience in a Director level or similar level role.
Minimum three (3) years in a supervisory role
Level and Type of Experience Preferred:
Minimum ten (10) years relevant experience
Five (5) years demonstrated experience in healthcare Finance role
Experience with Workday ERP
Education/training REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration or related field.
Education/Training Preferred:
Master’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration or related field preferred.
Special knowledge and/or skills:
Knowledge of GAAP, Financial Analysis, GL Accounting
Skills in Excel modeling and Financial Analytics; Tableau; Workday ERP
Ability to analyze financial statements, prepare business plans and financial proformas
Approval/Denial of Community Hospital Roles
Calculation of financial accruals
Additional position requirements such as shift rotations, weekends, environment, etc. : n/a

Manage and supervise staff assigned to support the Finance Director
