DIRECTOR OF MARKETING & PUBLIC RELATIONS-WV STATE AUDITOR'S OFFICE-KANAWHA CO.
Salary: $45,000-$80,000, Commensurate with Experience

Position Summary
The Director of Marketing & Public Relations is responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies that increase public awareness of the West Virginia State Auditor’s Office, its services, and the leadership role of the State Auditor. This includes managing media relations, digital platforms, public outreach, and assisting directly in promoting transparency and accountability. This position also involves flexible scheduling, occasional travel, and assisting the Auditor.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Media & Public Relations
  • Serve as the primary contact for media inquiries.
  • Draft press releases, talking points, and official statements.
  • Coordinate press events, public announcements, and speaking engagements.

Social Media & Digital Engagement
  • Manage all official social media accounts and online platforms for the Auditor’s Office.
  • Create engaging and accessible content (posts, graphics, videos) to highlight office initiatives and the leadership of the State Auditor.
  • Monitor social media channels for engagement opportunities and ensure timely responses.

Public Outreach & Events
  • Assist with planning, organizing, and promoting community outreach events.
  • Highlight the Auditor’s leadership role while focusing on the office’s statutory functions.

Internal & Executive Support
  • Provide speechwriting and presentation assistance for the Auditor and senior leadership.
  • Ensure consistent internal messaging and communication across divisions.

Travel & Scheduling Support
  • Accompany the Auditor to events, meetings, and community visits as needed
  • Drive the Auditor to engagements and provide logistical support
  • Be available for occasional overnight stays and flexible hours depending on travel and event schedules

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, political science, or a related field preferred.
  • Prior communications, media, or social media management experience preferred.
  • Strong writing, editing, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in social media platforms and basic graphic or video editing tools.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license and be comfortable driving for work-related travel.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings, weekends, and overnight stays.
